This sounds like a vere to this thread, but its not, though in the end it may not be relevant...

What was the date of LTG IV, does anyone have that easily at hand?

Above from https://guildguitars.com/warranty-policy/ so it is pretty clear that Guild would prefer that the first contact be with the selling dealer or an Authorized Guild Service Center other than the factory.

This is in response to the comment about added complication with no claim that is is relevant to this particular situation because I have not memorized the complete story of what happened before it went to Oxnard.

Yes, I started with the dealer, and they referred me to Guild directly.

Well. At long last, they have offered me a replacement.

Chris, the customer service supervisor, says my original guitar should be done Wednesday, but the VP of production has taken a personal interest and wants the guitar to just be replaced instead. I am leaning in that direction. Part of the delay was that the bridge replacement did not stay correctly, so they had to replace it again, which means there has now been some refinishing in that area of the top. Also, as @davismanLV guessed, they were having a lot of trouble figuring out why the neck finish peeled and what to do to keep it from happening again.

Chris has offered to audition the original guitar (when it's finished on Wednesday) against the proposed replacement instrument, and give me his opinion. I'm polling the thread: should I wait for him to do that, or just opt for the replacement immediately?

I say get the replacement. BUT make sure that the replacement is built to their Description! Since it could have all been started with Intonation & Tuning Issues as well as the Bridge.
Simply when they try to repair the Finish flaking off this isn't as easy as just a light scratching and re-spray.

They now know who you are so maybe the replacement will come as you would like

I would tend to suggest waiting for Chris' report, nothing to lose apart from a few extra days without the guitar. On the other hand, unless his report says something that really makes you want to stick with the original guitar, I think you should go with the new one. The fact that they had issues with fitting the new bridge and the possibility of the finish issues reoccurring would bother me:unsure:

You guys confirmed my feeling about it. I called and left him a message saying I'd wait for him to compare them Wednesday, but unless his comparison revealed exceptional differences in favor of the repaired instrument, I'd be taking the replacement.

Thanks guys.

Good call! See what he says, but unless your old one is unbelievably exceptional, I'd go with the replacement guitar. Still hoping for the best outcome that makes you happy! 🤞🤞🤞

Add me to what seems to be the consensus. No harm in waiting for the comparison, but unless teh comparison weighs very heavily in favor of your original guitar, I'd take the replacement. The original has proven problematic for both you and the factory and has had some significant repair work done. You're better off starting afresh.

Take the replacement.

:ROFLMAO: And no, I'm not laughing at this situation, this isn't funny at all. I'm laughing about a recent long discussion had here about what constitutes "MINT". In my view, the repaired guitar is no longer "MINT", definitely take the new one. I know you liked the sound of the repaired guitar, but the new D55 might be even better.;)
