Oxnard D-55 natural, bought new last April. I've had some issues. The nut had to be recut to solve an intonation and tuning problem. Then (some of you will remember) I discovered it had been built with the wrong bridge; they used rosewood instead of ebony. I noticed when the color started coming off on the bridge pins and saddle.

Then, to cap it all, the finish is flaking off the neck:

I know that's not much, yet, but it shouldn't be happening and I want it fixed before it becomes a larger problem.

When I saw that starting to happen I took it to my local guy, who took that picture, but he's not able to service it; Guild requires it sent back to them. So I reluctantly boxed it up (glad I saved the box and packing) and shipped it to Oxnard yesterday. I'm also having them replace the bridge with the proper ebony.

I hope FedEx doesn't damage it.

EDITED to remove a contentious statement.

A question for my education.

If Guild require it to be sent to the and it does get damaged in transit, is Guild covering it?
Hopefully they sent you a shipping label?

Here's hoping this gets resolved. Clearly seems to be a warranty issue. Good luck!

Send it insured for sure. But for warranty work Guild should pick up the tab and give you a label. But I'm just glad you're getting this guitar put to rights. I'd be happy if they'd replace it. New Guilds are NOT CHEAP!! Warranty means something!! Good on you for persevering on this .....

Wow thats crazy you've had all these issues, what the heck. My D40 Traditional luckily hasn't had issues or finish flaking, I've had it since 2020. Hope it gets resolved quickly for you.

I remember when you posted about the wrong bridge. So weird.

I'm glad they're taking it back to the factory and hopefully that'll help them fix whatever process actually allowed that mistake to happen. Although, if they actually repair your guitar rather than replacing it, it will likely sound a little different to you. Personally, as I mentioned to you elsewhere, I prefer rosewood bridges, at least on the 12-string models. As for the finish coming off on the neck, that is really a good reason to get it back in their hands, dwasifar. Keep us posted, and good luck!

I hate to hear this. I love my Oxnard Guild, but I hate to hear they are making these types of errors and then tried to cover it up with staining the bridge a darker color. It's one thing to see human error which just happens from time to time. Another thing entirely to try and mask it. IMO when you pay upwards of $3k for a new D-55 / F-55 etc. Ebony is a given for bridge and fretboard. Just as importantly you don't expect to have to have the nut re-cut or to see the finish flaking off of the neck. They should flat out send you a new one.

I'm of two minds about that. Objectively you're probably right, and I'm worried that messing with the bridge will create problems of its own. But on the other hand I have bonded with this instrument, and a new one is an unknown. We'll see what they do.

Shame on the QC manager. This shouldn't happen to any of their models, especially the D-55.
Rich,100% There shouldn't be anywhere near this many issues on any US made model, but especially not on flagship models. This is the kind of thing you would expect on an overseas sub $500 model with the expectation that you might have your luthier make some tweaks. However, fit and finish on a $3500 dollar guitar should be impeccable.

I just hope that whomever handles this service issue at Guild doesn't hide behind the pandemic as an excuse. Even if that has played a part, own it and make it right.

I don't know how dwasifar's guitar escaped the shop, but I in the original thread where he showed us what was going on here, I don't think there was evidence that the bridge was being painted or stained. It's just that it was rosewood rather than ebony, guys. IMO, it's not like there was a cover up here, it was just a mistake... which they're trying to rectify.

I guess it depends on how you look at it. My local tech who examined it was firmly of the opinion that it had been stained. I don't think there's proof, but the fact that it was leaching color into the pins suggests he could be right.
