The pins in my D55 aren't origional. Remember the extra set that was shipped in the case compartment? Those were the origional, of which I think they had four.

Off topic of course, Mark do you have any recordings with your D-55?
Of course. Would it be an LTG thread otherwise?

On my Soundclick site there are 3 or 4 using the D-55.
Grandma's Feather Bed
Fields of Gold
Very Last Day
Waltzing Matilda

FWIW: Live, amplified recordings were done using a temp soundhole pickup. L.R. Baggs iBeam was just installed this week. Hurray!
Other recordings were ad hoc to a cassette deck in my living room.

Thanks for asking, Graham.

Gee Mark, you're making it increasingly difficult for requests at the Open mike in Arlington.

That's okay, G. I don't take requests. 8)

Seriously - A good open mic will always be non-threatening and supportive of all participants. Anyone with the guts to play in front of an audience deserves to be encouraged. I don't know a group better at these things than LTG.

Cid said to me the other day;

C - "I really have to admire your persistence at the guitar, you've played almost everyday for months now"

G- "Thanks, I'm really enjoying it"

C - "Do you like my persistence?"

G - "At what?"

C - "You've played almost everyday for months now."

The D55's got plastic on her too, at least I think it is.

That still baffles me. My DV-52 had wood pins.

Bet they are aftermarket.

Yes, aftermarket. All bridgepins from that time were plastic. Variations were the dots (i.e. black, abalone, turquois, coral)

Well thank you sir. Then in 2001, even a D55 would have come with plastic bridge pins? And saddle?

West,
Plastic bridgepins at that time, yes.
Saddle is bone (unless factory installed transducer - then wider slot with Micarta as material)
Nut is bone as well

The old ones are the best :!:

Can you play 'far away'? How does it go? No, can you just play far away!

Can you sing tenor? No, I'm bass. No, can you sing ten or eleven miles away?

I finally got a half-way decent pic of the bone/ab pins Gordon Orth made for my D-55:

They were a bit hard to photograph... trying to show the beautiful pattern in the ab w/o blowing out the white bone. What doesn't come out as well in the photo is the iridescence of the ab... they are quite stunning. A great match for the fret markers on the D-55.

...and much finer-looking than the generic Stew-Mac bone/abs. If I had it to do over again ... I wouldn't. I read all the posts but went 'economy' and got an 'economy' result; paid a little, got a little.

With luck and were I to sell it on de Bay, I could say "...has bone bridge pins!..." without disclosing the nearly imperceptible distinction on the guitar as between them and plastique...although it would be a true statement.

A great-looking set of pins!!
