So my daughter is at my house cleaning the salty things out of my spice cabinet. I still have plenty of seasonings - dried onion, basil, pepper, fresh limes and lemons, olive oil, Balsamic vinegar.

But another challenge is the refrigerator, particularly the salad dressings. But I can make good salad dressings with no salt or sugar.

And the thing is that so many seasonings have salt in them.......Tony's, Louisiana, BBQ rubs and spices.........they're all loaded with salt. I went through this with sugar........trying to find foods with zero sugar. It took a while, and I had to acquire a taste for Splenda, but it can be done. I can now say there is ZERO refined sugar in my diet. There's a bunch of unrefined, like breads and crackers and potatoes and chips, but I've cut way back on those. Once you set your mind to it, a diet change can be pretty easy Marc. You've got this bro.

Well I'd really like to blow this pop stand, tomorrow will be 2 weeks in the hospital and it looks like I'll probably be staying through this week. They want me to lose another 12 pounds and then do a right heart cath and maybe a cardioversion.

More diuretics!

Reminds me of a joke: "Hey buddy, why are you pouring your beer in the toilet?" " I'm sick of being the middle man."

Well, hell, Marc. I thought you were home. I must've read something wrong. Do you get up and about and do anything or just in bed and stuff? Curious. Another 12 pounds is good, but fluid retention is a bitch. Congestive heart failure is a rough thing to deal with. They monitor everything in, and everything out. Tough sitch, but .... you gotta do it!!

Well it looks like I'm finally going home on Friday. The plan now is to do a cardioversion tomorrow and home on Friday.

16 days is too long to sit in a hospital room.

At least my dogs will be glad to see me again!

You don't have to brine your food to smoke it. Just a tad of a sprinkling of salt will do it fine. Get well.

So apparently my heart is in worse shape than I realized. They tell me it's only functioning at 30-40%. Had a long talk with the palliative care team and my wife today, discussing all the different possibilities and eventualities. The plan at this point is to get me home and NOT get fluid overloaded again. This will mainly require a strict salt reduction and fluid restrictions. I'll have a care team coming to my house periodically. Plus my nurse wife and nurse daughter are watching over me closely.
Good luck, follow their regimen, and much improvement can be accomplished.
Plus we need your ass here!

Cardioversion is great!! You're in A-fib and they take you down, put these leads all over your back and prep you and then a push of the needle you're OUT and then the shocking happens, then wake up in normal sinus rhythm!! Good deal!! Now you just gotta stay there. Are you one of the people who knows when you're in A-fib? I sure do. But my sister in law and many people don't even know.....
