And the thing is that so many seasonings have salt in them.......Tony's, Louisiana, BBQ rubs and spices.........they're all loaded with salt. I went through this with sugar........trying to find foods with zero sugar. It took a while, and I had to acquire a taste for Splenda, but it can be done. I can now say there is ZERO refined sugar in my diet. There's a bunch of unrefined, like breads and crackers and potatoes and chips, but I've cut way back on those. Once you set your mind to it, a diet change can be pretty easy Marc. You've got this bro.So my daughter is at my house cleaning the salty things out of my spice cabinet. I still have plenty of seasonings - dried onion, basil, pepper, fresh limes and lemons, olive oil, Balsamic vinegar.
But another challenge is the refrigerator, particularly the salad dressings. But I can make good salad dressings with no salt or sugar.
Reminds me of a joke: "Hey buddy, why are you pouring your beer in the toilet?" " I'm sick of being the middle man."
Good luck, follow their regimen, and much improvement can be accomplished. So apparently my heart is in worse shape than I realized. They tell me it's only functioning at 30-40%. Had a long talk with the palliative care team and my wife today, discussing all the different possibilities and eventualities. The plan at this point is to get me home and NOT get fluid overloaded again. This will mainly require a strict salt reduction and fluid restrictions. I'll have a care team coming to my house periodically. Plus my nurse wife and nurse daughter are watching over me closely.
