I really don't know anything about Masons but it appears to be an all male club.

Whats the significance of this thread, is there a point here to be made? Is there some piece of knowledge to be gained by this at all? I'm not trying to be a smartass Capquest I'm just curious.

No. I guess I just wandered off.

Probably a good time to end it.

If a moderator is seeing this please shut it down if you wish to. It really has nothing to do with our guitars. It was a question I asked in a moment of excitement on playing the ax again..

The fact is I'm a member of this world wide ancient fraternity and I tend to look for other Masons in the places that I feel a kinship to.

Hope it wasn't disharmonious.

There seem to be some pretty neat social ideals involved in the society. I remember reading about a character becoming a freemason in War and Peace as an avenue to turn his life aright.

Unless there've been some recent LTG policy changes, nobody has to justify their threads. As I understand Freemasonry, there's a considerable amount of knowledge to be gained by being a part of the organization.

I don't know much about it although my Mother and Father had been involved all of my life. My Mother was a Grand Matron (PooBah) of the Eastern Star and my Father is a Shriner, replete with the Fez, and the pointy shoes.

They do a lot of good work and they raise a lot of money for charities, but they don't like to car pool.

Just make sure we stay on topic, right ?
Hi Carl, I know you're pulling my E-string but, I've been as bad as anybody about cow-tipping. One of the appeals of the LTG BB compared to others is its tolerance for non-linearity. Regards, John

I think you took the tone of my question wrong, sorry, it was misleading and poorly worded. I was not wanting the thread to be justified. I was really just curious as to what it was about. The facing East thing while playing was cryptic and I wondered (and still do) what it was about. I also was curious as to why the list of musicians and entertainers. As I said, I don't know much at all about the Masons, especially as it pertains to music, so I was looking for some insight into the reason for the thread.

Hi Pete; the BB environment can be 'cold'; if we were all down at the Guild Tavern, knocking back long-neck Westerlys, and talking about this subject, that would be one thing. But here in the ether, no one can see your eyes or hear the tone of your voice. All that any of us here have to go on is the words written by another. If you stick around long enough and I hope you do, I and everyone else will have a better sense of what you ordinarily intend.

As I understand it, Freemasonry is something of a secret society; perhaps somewhat less so in recent years. Capquest's asking who among us belongs to it is one thing, asking him to talk about their beliefs, rites, and practices is another. If you want to know more, I'd suggest researching the subject independently or maybe asking capquest privately in a PM or email.

Finally, I face southwest when playing but my amps face east; I strongly believe that I get better mid-range tone, less feed-back, and the best overdrive that way .......

Free Willy? Free Masonry! Best wishes,
John

Here's an explanation of how this relates.

There are seven ancient liberal arts. Grammar, Logic, Rhetoric, Arithmetic, Geometry, MUSIC and Astronomy.
The first three are called the Trivium (from which the word trivial comes) and are of the internal sciences of Man.

Grammar is the naming of things using words and is the first directive given to Man by The Great Architect in most of the Sacred Books of Law (God has many names and Man has received many books of Law. Bible, Koran, etc)

Logic is the formation of thoughts into concepts,

Rhetoric is the ability to communicate those thought into convincing arguments to others. There is a form of Logic called Sophistry which is the use of false logic to prove a false point (Politicians are especially adept at this)

The other four are called the Quadvium and are the arts and sciences that address the Universe outside of Man.

Arithmetic is the study of numbers and their relationships

Geometry (Physics) is the noble Art of the study of reality in dimensions. Two dimensions is called a superficies (from which the superficial derives)

MUSIC is the science of sound and contemplation....the study of the Muse. Brother Mozart said music was Geometry in sound. Consider the relationship af the frequencies in a major or minor scale or the cycle of fifths. Brother Issac Newton confirmed these divine relationship in his work with Light.

Astronomy is the study of the Great Architect's monumental work. Consider this, when you look at a star are you lookin far away or back in time?

So the next you pick up the ax realize that your are communicating with the Eternal....but then again you know this don't you.

I know this has been a long paper but you asked what it has to do with Guild guitars and that it.

BTW. The Shriners raised 600 million dollars last year for the Shrine hospitals. There are no cash registers in those hospitals. You have bank presidents, US Presidents, Prime Ministers, famous musicians etc. all getting dressed up in funny hats driving around in little cars or being clowns for those kids.

Charity is one of the Great guiding Lights in Masonry.

If this has been too esoteric I apologize
