I love this comment at the end of the series of the 20 tattoos:

"...Wonder if anyone told #12 that Randy Rhoads name is spelled wrong?...

It's been a long night...lots of tequila shots...and, you're extremely confident it's time to get that long-desired tattoo....encouraged by your fellow best buddies, you want to immortalize something on your body that says, "This is ME! This is what is the MOST important thing to me......forever!" There is no pain, cuz the shots took care of that..... 8)

My goodness!

That's the one I would get, but let me ask you this: you went through all the pain and trouble to get a Chesterfield and you didn't have the three lines put in? I would say something like, "is it just me or ... " but it is just me, for I am strangely addicted to the three-line Chesterfield. You always want what you don't have.

Don't have any, don't want any, and I never been drunk enough to get one, apparently.
Right there with you Joe.
Always wondered what could drive some to permanently stain their body.
Each his own I guess!

I considered getting the three lines, but my first love, the nightbird, doesn't have the lines.

How about ye old Jefferson Airplane tatt? Straight from the after bathing at baxter's artwork. Photo's from back in the mello-fro days, but the ink is still the same.

I only see it when you play!!!! And as someone mentioned on that thread; When you play like you do, nobody cares about the facial expressions.

I don't think there is anything wrong with a small tattoo on a discrete area of someone's body for personal or other reasons. A small butterfly on the ankle, a tiny angel on the buttocks just below the belt-line. Come on, we've all seen those and at times they can be attractive. Now as far as getting a portrait of Keith Richards that is just asinine. I do understand the desire to make a statement that echoes your passion for life, I'm just not sure body art is the medium for me. I'll save mine for the epitaph on my headstone.

I can understand someone wanting tattoos as a means of personal expression, more than some of the other "body modification" stuff that is getting more common nowadays.

Recently saw a young woman in a grocery store, who had multiple facial piercings (roughly 10 to 12 locations scattered about her face). She looked like an industrial-accident victim, still full of shrapnel.

Plus, she had those huge open-hole inserts that were stretching her earlobes to eye-watering dimensions. No exaggeration, the openings in her earlobes were about 1.5 inches in diameter.

I couldn't help but wonder if she had opened an old copy of National Geographic , & mistakenly assumed it was a fashion magazine.

YMMV :(

I've grown to accept tattoos as a form of self expression that I would rather not indulge in but I have mostly overcome my non-positive reactions when other folks do indulge.

Piercings are another thing entirely. I have to work to suppress my disapproval. We once had several folks interview for a job. One of the interviewees had a pierced tongue with a ball that was visible every time she opened her mouth to speak. When the team assembled to discuss the candidates, one person mentioned the ball, every one else nodded their head and we went on to discuss the other candidates. I'd like to believe that if she had been exceptionally well qualified we would have given her more serious consideration but her qualifications did not shine through in the interview process. Things will probably be different in 5-15 years when geezers like me are retired and no longer hiring managers.
