Wow, I feel lucky, I've only heard a very few of all the songs mentioned. As to Springsteen, I think he created one very good album "The Wild, the Innocent and the E Street Shuffle." Of course, as somebody else pointed out, it's hard to argue with success. Of the songs I have heard, most of them were things that were very popular and got played when I worked in a record store or I probably wouldn't have heard them at all, they never made it into rotation on my local public radio stations.

Coastie...Dude, you no like the Bruce? "Thunder Road?" "Rosalita?" Well, dress me in daffodils and call me Pansy.

My two nominations are by artists already mentioned. Indeed, "I am Woman" and "Mandy" are puke-worthy.

But the two worst hits, IMO, would be "Delta Dawn" by Reddy from her country crossover comeback and "Copacabana" by the great BM.

Submitted for your approval, Dread.
HI 'zilla; As heretical as it is, I too can find no enthusiasm for "the Bruce" and can recall clearly the actual antipathy I had after about the 3rd time I heard "Born in the...". On the other hand you did remind of one I hate far far more: "Knock 3 Times" by Tony Orlando and Dawn...

WHAT ??

Big humbucker overdose ! Too much is nearly enough !!

Admittedly, it is a bit of a drag until the frantic bit starts !
Frono, I'm with you...put this up against anything by the Allmans (EVEN "Ramblin' Man") and there's just no need excuse for it. Really sloppy, actually. Sorry Coastie, even though we agree about "the Bruce"....

Certainly not the worst ever, but mighty high on my hate-list .............
Bruce Springsteen bawling "Born in the USA".
And anything else by Springsteen !
I'm with you there, Coastie!
Yelling doesn't fit into my definition of music, and despite his obvious success, I never could understand the appeal. Is it the tough guy/rebel/surly/non-conformist image or what is it exactly? Someone enlighten me, please.
And who dubbed him "the Boss" anyway? The boss of what?
Guilded,
Joe
You got me thinking about what part "regionalism" plays in popularity. "Back in the Day" lots of bands progressed to national airplay from "regional hero" status. Springsteen: Jersey boy makes good and was a rock journalist darling at the time of his debut album which also was a gasp of rock oxygen in a disco-dominated world. There's even buzzwords to put regional tags on bands: "Grunge" was from Seattle by definition originally, Skynrd ("Southern Rock"), the Doobie Brothers ("California Soul") Frankie Valli and the 4 Seasons (and I hereby nominate "Oh What A Night"), were Jersey boys too, but I've seen 'em categorized as "Philly Soul". Which reminded me of yet one more nomination from a guy who really was from Philadelphia: "Hey There Lonely Girl" by Eddie Holman. I just couldn't understand HOW the h--l THAT ever charted..
Regionalism was kind of neat actually but I think it's been pretty much extinguished by the prevalence of the "Classic Rock" format and by how much stuff makes national premier on MTV.

Bit late getting here as I've been busy, you know WORKING for a living, but totally agree on the "Bruce" sentiments. The exception of course being "Highway Patrolman", as performed by the late great Johnny Cash.

Worst song ever in our house is anything performed by Lamb of God or Atreyu, which my teenage guitar playing son listens too. Absolutely unlistenable...

I agree about Atreyu...and if Lamb of God is anything like Atreyu then I agree on that one too... I've only heard one song by Atreyu, which was on the soundtrack in a videogame. It was awful.. and they were screaming the lyrics, not singing them.

...And isn't it difficult not to appear like an old fogey when you object to it ? Reminds me of my mum yelling at me to turn down "Sladest" on my cassette deck !!

WOAH, now. Don't generalize saying all death, black, etc metal singers are Atreyu or Lamb of God......

How's about we veer back to specific songs and not just heap abuse on specific genres? I'd hope that people actually listen to a "song" before it becomes a candidate for the "Worst Song, Ever" and it sounds as people are describing things that they cannot listen to. Just sayin' as a matter of courtesy, since there are obviously people who listen to things that other people believe is noise.

Guilty as charged. :)
