...And I can certainly relate on the Blackhawk. That particular Super Blackhawk has a 10 1/2" barrell...... :) makes it a tad easier to hit what your shooting at long range. Looks pretty obscene if you try to conceal it though.

My Blackhawk in .41 mag had the 4&5/8" pipe and open sights.

On a good day I could get 3 for 6 onto a paper plate at 100 yards (handloads, but standing: not from a bag).

I felt pretty good about that. Paper plates run in gangs around here.

My wife also put the hammer in her forehead despite numerous warnings about the muzzle flip. That made for an interesting encounter at the walk-in clinic.

Good gosh, you should feel good about that.....................tremendous shooting. Very accurate and powerful guns they are. I've had a couple of friends shoot my .44 magnum and refuse to wear the glove I wear on my right hand, both paid the price with split knuckles.....brutal recoil, just brutal, but if you can take it and learn not to flinch, it's deadly accurate.

I'll have to admit to buying that thing when I was about 25 years old.....suffering from extremely "High T".

Kind of lost track of this thread veer.

No, the first .44 Mag I shot believe it of not was actually a Freedom Arms, lifting that thing was far worse than the recoil. Next was a Desert Eagle which with my short fingers was a real stretch. Most frequent around here is a S&W 629s. really should not be used with hot loads, but a few won't hurt. My favorite story about . 44 Mag is at our range (I'm one of the range officers) we have a general policy of discouraging full mag loads, sound consideration in multi-activity building. One of our members took this to heart and loaded up some light loads. They were really light, first shot I heard was ping OW, second shot ping OW. So I went over to his station, they were bouncing off the backstop, instead of flattening, and bouncing back hitting him  There was no damage done, protective eyeglasses and all that. We agreed he should take them home, and pull the bullets and recalibrate his powder load.
Never had problems with the hammer hitting me in the forehead, have a pretty weak grip so I think my hand just twists away. I also learned to shoot one handed so most of my shooting is done that way. Two handed I shoot triangle not Weaver, which would put it smack in the middle of my head, but the gun winds up way over it. Always believed in revolvers over semiautos, even though I have an insanely tight, accurized 1911 (originally made about the time I was born, modified in the '70s), and an East German Makarov which digests any form of 9X18 MAK. About a year ago a fellow instructor sold me a Kahr PM9. Kahr recommends a 200 round break in period. At 150 rounds had a failure to eject, another at about 250. I decided what the heck and kept shooting without cleaning, went over 1000 rounds, that one at 250 rounds was the last. Cleaned it and shot a another 100, no failures. it has become my favorite gun. Handles everything, I prefer hot Corbons as my defensive loads in everything except the Judge (special Federal .410 shells for the Judge) where Corbon +P .45 Colt is my last ditch round.

What were we talking about, oh yeah books. i like McMurtry also, am reading the third book of the Berrybender Chronicles " By Sorrow's River". really quirky tragicomic adventures of an English lord and entourage in the west in the 1830s. usual mix of fictional and real characters. I also like his son's (James) music a lot, plays a GAD JF30 a lot. How about that a music veer

Harmony H-173 bought in 1960 (retired), Alvarez AC60S 2008, Eastman AC320ce 2008 "Hybrid", Guild GAD-JF30E(blonde) 2008, Guild JF55 1997, Guild D25M 1974, Martin Grand J35E 2009, Martin D12-20 1970

U don't even know the half of it Joe, I've only been into guitars for the last couple years......Been collecting guns for the last 20+ I didn't realize how many guns I actually had until I got them all out at once to make sure I had all the serial numbers wrote down for insurance purposes a few months ago! I rotate thru a cleaning schedule on them all, but had never realized how many there was until they were all out at the same time...Holy Cow! The bad thing is when I was looking them all over I kept thinking what their value would be in guitars

Yeah, I keep forgetting to cite James, when I first heard that name I said to myself: "That's GOTTA be Larry's kid" And his song, "We Can't Make It Here""...D--n! I hope that riles up enough folks with enough future ahead of 'em to change THAT problem! 8)
Finished the Matt Braun last night. Turns out he's pretty well respected writer and the historical background in his book "Indian Territory" was fascinating. About putting rails through the Indian territories in the '80's (EIGHTEEN 80's ).
Started "Flying Through Midnight", biographical account of a C123 pilot in Laos in '70. Reading stuff like that is how I came to respect the guys who were there while I lucked out and missed the draft by a few months. Back when certain political entities had us convinced the US was actually the bad guys and the Viet Cong/ Pathet Lao were noble freedom fighters. (there's your political veer Ross  )
Well, not looking to start any controversy. Just saying I kinda wish I knew then what I know now.

I know there's a lot of vets here. And I saw your post about your friend. While my best buddy and I were worshipping at the altar of peace and love from '71-'74, his father was in fact a retired Naval Captain of the U.S.S. Enterprise, Yankee Station. Who was there defending his children's right to think anything they wanted and trusting the free marketplace of ideas to give 'em enough information to finally figure out the truth. It took a while but I finally figured out just who the good guys really were. They were the guys like your friend. 8)
Thank you for your service.

i'd break out the heavy artillery for an Oprah book or anything having to do with Oprah, something like a grenade launcher...or why not a Gatling gun. That should be enough to take out my aggression and disdain for Oprah.
