Hey hey! We're getting old, and with old age come new responsibilities, one of them being criticizing the youth.
Three (3) grandsons (12, 9, and 6) spent the night here last night, so we could talk about our responsibilities....

Ahh, the many things we learn here at LTG.
Now I know, Pal-'ate' for taste and Eating, "ette' for art. Got it!
At this point, we'll have to bring in the great Mississippi John Hurt, and his Guild, to wrap up all this Palat, Palette, Pallet -mess-about!

BTW, Didn't Taylor make a guitar out of a pine Pallet? :lol:Or, as Martin would say....a Pine Palate?

 I agree. It is palette for me. Speaking of palate's, mine is drooling a little because my home made chicken soup is ready

I thought the pallet was the person who flies the plane.

And what about the flagon with the dragon???

Oh, hey, and Pascal... I totally admire you for anality with regard to the language, my friend. After all, you won't have me weighing in on poor French usage/grammar. :) Rock on, Mr. purple pants.
 Thanks Charlie... and going back to my post above, the really weird thing is, a lot of folks at work, come to me (the French guy) with spelling / grammar questions... in English!!!!

And you're right about "then and than" being an obvious one, which is why it bothers me so much....
Again: WHY????????????
The one that used to drive my old grampa nuts:
"To try and...." instead of "to try to..."
Worse, I hear it at least 4 times a week on the morning news, and that's a relatively minor crime compared to some of the mangled usages I hear.... and these are the folks who are supposed to be exemplars of proper grammer usage?
Another common misuse in a crime report: calling suspects perpetrators. A perpetrator by definition is the one who committed the act, however they use the term when referring to a person who is not known to have committed the act but merely suspected of it....grrrrr.....
They're really gonna get theirs in heaven, if they get there.

I'm glad you pointed that out, Al. I've never even noticed that one, and I'm quite sure I've made that mistake myself. I'll try and get that right from now on. :D :D (sorry, gramps!)
