Add an acoustic guitar or two and the picture is complete. :D

For sure.

This, oh, let's call it a mild change of pace, has put us back in touch
with our good fortune. I mean, flowing clean water at the turn of
a knob - what luxury! But guitar time... we find that hauling wood,
tending fires, melting snow, heating water etc. etc. takes up a huge
amount of time. On the plus side - I love public radio, and have found
time to tune into a few shows that I would have otherwise missed in
the evenings. Caught great interviews with Tom Waits (Fresh Air)
and T Bone Burnett (World Cafe).

Our principal came to work today, first time since the storm. He lives in New Hartford, and says that it is still a complete mess in many places, and no power restoration on the horizon. According to one news source, CL&P not only still owes other power companies for the mutual aid during Irene but is also not willing to pay a retainer for services, so they are not getting as much help as they could. Here in Middletown (where I work), they are targeting November 6 as restoration day, and this is a much higher priority area than New Hartford, hard to say when they'll get power.
We're lucky where I work, as a secure facility, we have back up power that kicks in automatically (and literally immediately) if there is any outage. We also have staff shower areas for those people who have no hot water or power for well pumps.

That's all just so very wrong. Twenty inches of wet, heavy snow should not fall before the leaves turn color, much less fall off the trees. Here's hoping the power gets restored soon to those of you without it.

We were fortunate, in that power was only off for a couple of days . . . much better than after Ms. Irene.

Strange to be looking at green lawns, green leaves on trees, & little bits of snow in shady spots where it hasn't yet melted. :!:

....and to think that you could have blended into that scene with a nice white D 25....ah well....it would have been nice.... Steffan

And before power was restored, a black D25 would also have been beautifully camouflaged.

Choices, choices . . . 8)

That is just unbelieveable to me (though I believe you). The past two serious storms we've had here, both of which knocked out power to about 1/4 of the state, service crews from Louisiana and Oklahoma electric companies were here BEFORE the storms hit and were working as the trees were falling....literally. I wish you guys luck......you'll be in my prayers.

We've had power back since Monday, but there are still large area here without. Yesterday on the way into the fire academy I saw a convoy of white bucket trucks from Allegheny Electric (from Virginia !) coming up Route 117...on my way home those crews were working on pole along that route in Bolton (who was still without power when I passed through.)

Most power back in NJ, still not my end of the block. Saw PSE&G trucks for the first time last night, figured rescue is in sight. My wife tells me there's 10 guys working behind the house next door, we should have it back later today.

None too soon. I've been missing my amps!

Bolton was restored last night. The Allegheny guys must've helped!

We have a friend in Somers, CT who has been told to expect to be without power for awhile, probably into next week. That area was badly affected by the most-recent storm - central CT, close to the MA/CT state line. Slightly higher elevation apparently resulted in more snow & many more fallen trees.

New Hartford is powered up, at least where my principal lives, so maybe the Guild plant is up and running again. As of this morning, there were still over 400,000 CL&P customers with no power, but I know several people from work who got theirs back during the day, so it's come down from that.

That's good news! I know New Hartford has a big dealer summit this month, and I hope that hasn't screwed up their plans.

Best wishes to you guys down there, Brad. That storm sure was a duesy!

Damn, amidst all this, I'm seeing the humidity dropping in my house. Now I have to go get the humidifier cranking.

It never rains, it pours.

Up here in Ware MA just got power back today. Rt 9 along the Quabin reservoir completely devastated. fortunately we heat with wood and cook with gas so we were able to stay warm and cook. Cabin fever set in a few days ago but we were able to visit my wife's cousin for showers and charging up the computers. Had to use my cell phone mobile hotspot for internet. Been cleaning tree limbs every day all week. There's enough out of state line workers in town to take over a small country, like one truck for every other pole. Once I get a chance to upload the pics I'll link to a gallery. Gonna spend the next few days flicking all the light switches and laughing my a$$ off. Indoor plumbing is great ain't it?

I really never minded being without power, kind of enjoyed it, but once we added teenagers in the mix it can really bite!
