Don't mess with me or I'll bump TonyT's legendary 'This Thread's About Nothing' (that went for 25 pages or so ...) or Frono's 'Post Count' thread ... another LTG Hall of Famer (Shamer?) that hit 30+ pages
No no!!! The one where we were discussing the worthiness of NH Guilds at their current prices!!! :p
Right. YOUR thread. The one with the bet on how many pages it would run.
You already won. Go back to sleep.

Throughout this thread, I kept thinking about, say, Guild making two F40s; as close to identical as possible save only the finish; NCL on one ... UV-cured on the other and whether the 'golden ears' could make a distinction. Well ... I was keeping that angle until hideglue said that even when he and his colleagues were stringing up brand new identical models, each still had subtle differences despite the fact that they were as similar as realistically possible.
I'd just add the detail that the guitars would need to be similarly aged and played (maybe using one of those "tonerites") to get at the real question, ie, "Will nitro sound better in 5, 10 or 20 years?"
Realistically though, I agree with the idea that it's probably impossible to construct a true scientific comparison, if nothing else because no 2 guitars ARE identical.
And even though I'm kind of an NCL "traditionalist", I'd look at any new evidence for superiority of poly for tone with an open mind. And I don't dispute those guys who've demonstrated that even "educated ears" can't readily distinguish between the two when new, or even old nitro vs new nitro.
It's gonna be real interesting when I find out what my D40's actually finished with since it seems to have opened up a bit more recently. I finally got some acetone to test a chip of the finish, I'm just waiting 'til I change strings to make it a bit easier to get under the TRC for a chip. I'll report back in the interests of submitting an honest, if subjective, opinion.

I thank Don for leaving that thread up. Little did I know at the time that it would be my journal of my home building experience. I hadn't thought about that one in a while.

West, what was the humidity? Any breeze?

Obviously depends on the time of the day Darryl, and much depends on weather systems..........something that we haven't seen much of lately, but these days it ranges from 70-80% in the early mornings to 30-40% on the unbearably hot afternoons.

This whole drought thing is like nothing I've ever seen. I was in a meeting today in which the topic of discussion was the real possibility of having to shut down some area power plants due to the fact that their cooling water intakes are perilously close to being exposed. We need some rain. As far as wind, not a breath of wind in the past week or so. The last time we had any wind was with the little teaser of a tropical depression that petered out proir to passing south of my friend Scratch in South Texas.

Funny thing is that we had the coldest winter on record last winter, and more snow than I've seen in my lifetime. I've been reading a bit about solar flares that have been occuring that the experts think may be responsible. I wish that sucker would stop flaring and settle down!!!

It's good that your humidity goes down in the afternoon. Also good that you got some snow pack. Is the Houston area dry too?

Houston is very dry Darryl. 80% of Texas is under severe drought conditions. I do think Houston got a bit of rain last week, but it didn't knock a dent in their drought conditions.

Thanks Darryl, I was aware of La Nina, but we have seen that weather pattern before as I know it is a cyclical pattern, but I've never seen it like this. That is what led to my search for other scientific explanations. Not optimistic news in the article about there being another La Nina forming......I hadn't heard that.
