My brother lives in NJ & he came to visit just before Christmas. He also had a nice little gift for me - saving me some shipping. Thanks bro!
It was advertised as a a 1962 but the serial number (23631) indicates that it's a1963 which Hans verified before I bought it. Birth year guitar for me.
Might even be early '63 just like me. Like me it's got a bit of wear, scars, nicks & bruises but still looks OK from a distance.
Looks pretty original, apart from a pickguard screw I think, but I am no expert. Binding is OK. Frets are good & I really like the neck shape & feel.
At the moments it's got flat wounds on it (wound 3rd) & it has the rosewood (I think) bridge - both of which I am not used to.
It's a pleasure to play & something very different for me. It's obviously set up & designed to be a Jazz guitar, so maybe I should learn some! Certainly has got that smokey Jazz vibe to it on the neck position. Nice & full sounding but can start to feedback with the amp on 3 in my small playing space. I also really dig the middle position & I get a nice bite with the bridge only through the Vibrolux set on 5.
I am wondering whether to try it with another bridge with metal saddles & roundwounds to get a more rocky vibe as I can see the potential, especially on the bridge posn. I have also seen what Billy D. Light & Walter Broes can do with their Franz equipped hollowbodies & I like it! At the same I could just let it be & say "viva la difference". What say you?
Also though about a Guildsby but I wouldn't really want to add any extra holes into the body, so not sure if that's even possible.
Regardless, I am very happy with my purchase! Love this guitar. 8)
Well I've been a bit busy & the weather has been so bad that I haven't really been able to get any outside pictures until yesterday & today, so here they are. You guys always say you want a lot of pics right?
My (almost 16 years old) god-daughter loves it too. Says she can feel the "ju-ju vibes" when she plays it! She's got very good taste!
