:D :D Zelja, That would be my pleasure. :D I'll bring a few of mine, of your choice and I reckon we'll have a great Guildy time. Give me a lil while to get my stuff together here and we'll organinse a mini Guild meet up!
That will be a good day.

Great score, Zelja. And let me forward the nomination of NJ brother of Zelja as LTG Sibling of the Year!
Thanks TF. Steve is very proud to receive the nomination. And (shameless plug) if anybody needs a personal trainer or soccer coach in the Northern NJ region then PM me! :D

I am from NJ, and while I am currently living in MA I still have family and friends in NJ, so if your brother finds any more gems like that, particularly in the same year (also my birthday year) feel free to refer him to me and I will gladly drive down and pick it up. Btw, I have a search request in WTB for just such a birthday guitar, so please everyone keep those collective eyes and ears open for a fellow LTG'er!
I actually found that on ebay & got it sent to him, so he's not actively looking for stuff but if I see anything for you I'll let you know. I love how a birth year guitar gives you added justification to spend more money!

Needs to be done! PM me when you a re ready & we'll make it happen. I've already had a few get-togethers with hagmeat (which caused me to get S-100 GAS) & have a few more planned.

Thanks again to everyone, glad you enjoyed the pics.

I'll definitely try another bridge with it & have considered the bigsby. By some fluke does the appropriate bigsby use the same 3 screws & tail pin as the mounting bracket of the harp tailpiece? Would any more screws be needed? I would want to avoid drilling into this beauty.

Great guitar! The condition is really good and the reddish burst is remarkable. If you like the 'dark smoky tones' and can also get a brighter sound you like from mixing in the bridge pup you have a very versatile instrument... I wouldn't change a thing. Congratulations!
You know I'm probably guilty of trying to make every guitar sound close to my "ideal" tone - I think it's probably good to let the guitar be itself & not change anything like you say.
Yes, I read something a while back by a well respected guitarist (can't remember who at the moment, but to paraphrase, he said 'I spent years trying to make all my guitars sound the same, only to realize the beauty of having different guitars was to have access to a variety of sounds.'

Wow, I have this exact Guild one serial number later! Mine came to me with black knobs, although I do have a set of amber knobs if it should require it. Hans? I will post a pic if I can figure out how. I know Walter and BillyD from the Gretsch Pages, but it's time I joined up here and talk Guild for awhile. BTW, Walter is the guy that got me started on Guilds so it's all his fault.

You should throw Doozyman an offer on his '63 X-175 Deluxe. That thing's the coolest!

If he's considering selling I may just do that. What kind of pups are on it?

Hello JazzBoxJunky,

Welcome! The change from 'amber' to 'black' volume and tone knobs took place some time during 1963. Both your guitar and the subject guitar of this thread have early '63 serial numbers, but if your guitar was completed at a later date, which was not unusual at Guild, your guitar could very well have left the factory with black knobs.

Sincerely,

Hans Moust

Hans, any idea of the date or month when the serial numbers was given or the guitar was finished (the guitar in the OP)? Long shot I know...

Mini's. He's had it posted for a while.

Actually, I have seen that post. Very sweet guitar indeed, and certainly worth considering if I can't find the right guitar with DeArmond or Franz pups as that is what I am really looking for. Thanks for the info!
