Just received it from Sweetwater. Initial impressions are good. Probably the best setup I have got ordering from Sweetwater.

Nut action is good. Action at the 12th fret is exactly 6/64 with enough exposed saddle for future adjustment. Build quality is good too. The tone is different than a Martin dread in a good way. Very good base that is clear and focused, and pretty balanced too.

And…

NO DUDDY NOTES!!!

I will play it for a while before giving more details, because I have not played an acoustic guitar in months and have sissy hands right now.

Some pics…

Here is an update I posted today on other forums...

1 Day Update...

Put a new set of strings (D'addario XSAPB1253) on it so I could inspect the inside which is impeccable. The bridge pins fit perfectly, and fully seat in each hole with no play. The nut is cut very well with no binding at all when tuning up to pitch, and the saddle fits perfectly in the slot, and it's nice and flat on the bottom. The straight edge clears the top of the bridge by about 1/16" in the center and both sides of the neck, and the string height off the top at the saddle is exactly 1/2" at the D string.

This guitar is built and setup extremely well, and I'm very impressed with the quality of this guitar. I don't think Guild makes near the number of guitars per year as the big 3, and I think that shows with their attention to quality and detail of the ones they do make.

The tone is very good too, and i have yet to find a duddy note. I have not played acoustic for quite a while, and my hands are weak with no calluses right now, so it's a little hard to play, but it sounds wonderful so far.

I never tried a Guild before (believe it or not... lol), but this guitar is quite impressive for being in the 1.5k price range. Nothing flashy or fancy, but just a very well build and well setup instrument.

Hi Bob. I was just going to suggest this group, after seeing your UMGF post. Friendly and knowledgeable guitar geeks dwell here, too.

I used pics of your D20 to ask a tuner question...

I like the look of the plastic buttons on yours, but apparently, Guild doesn't sell in parts.

Welcome to LTG. Thanks for the description and sound report on the new dread.................first I remember reading. I've been looking for a new F40 in my area and have not seen any to date. Too many Taylors, Martins and Gibsons taking space on the racks at local shops and MC. The shop I'd bought Guilds in the 1980-1990s closed a few years ago due to broken water pipes in January and insufficient inventory insurance. Bankos had been in business since the early 1960s with the original owner passing around 2002. I miss the place and the owner who graduated from Julliard in the 1940s. Lots of great Big Band stories.

Welcome to LTG, and congrats on that beautiful all hog dread, imo a great choice. Stick around here long enough and you will probably end up owning several Guilds :)

Maybe if you called them, they would let you purchase a set.

Just a thought.

Thank you everyone for the warm welcome and replies.

Question on the serial number. Mine is C23XXXX.

Does the C mean California, and the 23 mean 2023, and the XXXX mean the production number?

Thanks,

In other words, Yes, C means Oxnard, California, then the year. The rest is more like a running total...

Congrats on that new all-mahogany model! Gorgeous! I've got a GAD all-hog 12-string that is remarkably sonic.

By the way, Cougs, that's right except they have reset the 4 digit counter at least once so it's not monotonically increasing.

Glad to see you here, Bob. Great folks here on this forum, and extremely knowledgeable about all things Guild.

I hope the D20 fills your acoustic needs. It’s one of the best values out there.
