Does anyone know what exactly are the machines that come with new D-20? They look like unmarked Waverly or Grover, and have cream buttons.

Thanks, boys!

HI Dave,

I doubt they're Waverly tuners, but they might be Guild-branded Grover or Gotoh tuners. I'd kind of suspect the latter as New Hartford did most of their business with Gotoh. However, I don't know if that's true for Oxnard...

I think you may be right about Gotoh, however, they don't seem to be available to buy on their own anywhere, especially from the Guild site.

Ignoring, the metal versus plastic buttons, do they look like this? If so, they are Der Jung (made in China) DJ426A Sta-Tite style tuners. They are listed in the specifications as “Guild Vintage Style Open Gear, Nickel with Nickel Buttons, 20:1 ratio” for my F-40 Traditional.

GG, did you swap out the tuners on your F-40T or were you just curious. Good call!
No, they aren't a standard size so the usual replacements are not drop-in fit. They aren't great tuners and I'm surprised Guild cheaped-out on them considering they are on the top-flight US-made acoustics.

That’s disappointing. They could at least spring for some Gotohs or Grover Sta-tites. It’s not like they’re expensive especially at the quantity they would purchase.

I think so, as well. It makes me suspicious about other areas where Guild has been cutting corners.

When buying a nice guitar, seeing the name of a respected tuner manufacturer printed on the baseplate attracts me more than drives me away, especially when you consider how little extra I’d pay. Pretty cheezy.

Just another sign of the times, I guess.

Oh, what I meant was "where did that picture come from?" But that's a bummer.

Cool. So you were just curious, GG? Anyway, great solving of the mystery. And, agreed with all the earlier comments... I'm very disappointed that Guild put el-cheapo tuners on a traditional. Of course, it's not the first time we've been upset with Guild about their tuner choices... Witness the open tuners used on NH's Orpheum 6-strings.

Would any Gotoh's fit, like gotoh-sxb510v ? I think the shaft diameter is different. Not sure if the bushings are the same outer diameter.

I checked and the Gotohs should fit. MIght need the Gotoh bushing, but base of the Gotoh shafts is 8.7mm vs dejung 8.6mm. Same screw spacing. Don't think it will need reaming.. I'm going to buy a set and I'll report back...

I thought you were talking about buying from DerJung for a second. I didn't see a purchase link.

I just bought them from Philadelphia Luthier Tools. Are you having problems with that site?
