This was my Dad's D15 ('86) with the gloss finish. When I purchased another one from Killdeer, without that gloss finish, I passed my father's guitar along to my niece for the simple reason that she had my mother's guitar and I felt like being magnanimous; and yeah, Joe's sounded sooooooooooo much better. LOL

Curious Joe , the B/W photo on post 111, taken by my 7 year old brother with a Kodak Brownie Box camera in early 1964, traded my 1963 Fender Strat for the SF 111 or 1V. not sure what MK. Cheers.

Bought my first and only Guild M-75 Aristocrat back in the early sixties. I didn't like the original tobacco burst so I painted it black. I also replaced the original tuners, control knobs and the bridge. Also replaced the bridge soapbar with a humbucker. The humbucker has it's own 2-way switch that you'll see just below it in the pic. Put all the old parts in a bag which I can't find. Not the wisest move in terms of value but I still like it in black much better than the burst (and the humbucker adds some versatility). Thinking of stripping it and going back to the original mahogany. For the top, I'll probably just leave it black. In terms of year, I haven't been able to figure that out. No serial number on the headstock or behind the tailpiece. I don't remember seeing one inside when I had the pups out (but that was quite a long time ago). Still very playable. Frets are in good shape and the touch is very good.

The pics show the Aristocrat and the current collection (From top left: Yamaha 12 from early 70's; DOS/Carparelli Twin Tiger; the M-75; Strat Clone; Danelectro U2 reissue from early 90's.

Hi Chris, welcome to LTG! The pictures are way too large to show up at a forum, you would need to save them much downsized. Anyway, here are the direct links to them (any picture you post here needs to end with .jpg):

Regarding dating your Aristocrat: Normally the serial number is on the back of the headstock. Strange that it isn't on your guitar....
Judging by the shape of the headstock ("Lip top") it seems to be a pre 1962 to 1964 guitar, maybe 60, 61, 62 or so...

Are you 100% sure there is no number on the back of the headstock ??? Normally it looks like this: http://www.mygear.com/img/item_pictures/large/70599.jpg

The truss rod cover is also pre 1964. I see the replaced tuners, replaced wooden bridge and replaced knobs (I guess they were clear Guild knobs on your original guitar, not the black knobs).
Are you sure the metal switch top is original? Because it was an orange looking Catalin switchtip in the past and at some point changed to a metal switch tip. That might give a hint to Hans to date the guitar better.
The original look might have been this: http://www.mygear.com/img/item_pictures/large/70596.jpg

By the way, Guild just re-issued a black M-75 Aristocrat as a limited edition of only 40 guitars: http://www.ebay.com/itm/231211529207

Hi Ralf,
Thanks for the feedback. Here is my response to some of your points:

- The headstock is painted so I can't tell for sure. If there is a number stamped into the wood I thought that something would still show.
If I do get around to stripping it, then I'll know for sure. I guess the head and the neck will be the place to start stripping. I uploaded a pic of the back
of the headstock so you can see how it looks.

- You are correct that the original knobs were the same style as the current black ones but clear.

- The switch is the original. The plastic nob was sort of a a yellowed white/beige color but I painted it black to go with everything else.

- I believe that the guitar looked exactly like the picture except for the color of the three-way switch nob.

The new black model is a nice looking guitar.

This is the only picture I can find of my first Guild, a D40. I bought it new, I think in 1979. A friend of mine owns it, so I can see it occasionally.
This picture was taken a couple of years ago.

The last you all saw of this newbie was back in December when I first got here. I did end up buying the F512 from a member, and I'm still in love with it. The sound is amazing! It still takes me a few minutes to realize that angels are not singing when I'm playing it. It's the guitar. :tickled_pink: Here are some pictures!

I came back recently to research another guitar (and lurk...) and as a result, I am waiting for the delivery of my second Guild child, a Westerly JF65. I'm now a 2 Guild family!
