High prices of the new Guilds; maybe should shop around.

Wait a minute... is today Christmas???
Technically not JC, today is the 26th, and it considered by a large number of persons "the day after Christmas".

When I posted, it was still the 25th! :)

Not according to the time stamp of your post. :D
Unless it's a time zone thingie... :? my pc reads 12/26 at 01:18.
I would like to get to the bottom of this, and yes, to page 30 too...

Ahh, time zone, I bet. I'm on the west coast. It was past 9pm, which means if you're on the east coast, then it would've been the 26th.

26th, 27th, 28th, 29th... then the 30th!

San Jose Cali.... Duh!!!!
I guess the delayed side effects of Christmas GM shots made me forget, and neglect to double check where you were from.
But thanks for pointing out the logic behind numerical sequences, and the too often underestimated importance of number 30.

I hesitate to post something vaguely related to the subject, but I notice the price increase on Traditional models has finally been posted on the Guild website. They're kinda, well, expensive these days.

I'm just glad I got my Guilds when I did. Prices nowadays, even for used ones, are kind of up there.

Also makes me wish I had more disposable income. :) But that's not Guild's problem..

It seems they are a little less than similar Martin Taylors and Gibson.
Its a premium guitar....

I can see why new Guilds are costing more these days.
They American made and use top quality woods and components.
Apples to apples.

I would think that it costs as much to build a Guild as it does to build a Martin or Taylor guitar.

So it just comes down to which guitar a buyer wants to get.
I just hope that solid marketing will help keep the Guild name alive.

And I think that's the main problem... all three guitars (Guild, Martin, Taylor) probably costs around the same to build, but buyers seem more willing to pay a premium for the Martin or the Taylor, because they've either established themselves well or market themselves well. Martin... well, it's Martin. Even my friends who aren't guitarists have a respect for the Martin name. And Taylor - they've done a good job of billing themselves as a premium guitar maker, and even though I have always preferred a Guild over a Taylor, in my mind I always associate Taylor as the higher end brand. Guild.. I don't know how it ended up this way, but I've always associated Guild as the brand that is built well, and priced very well (for the buyer). So even as a Guild fanatic, my mind doesn't allow Guild as much room to mark up over the cost to build.

If I take the analogy farther.. it'd be like comparing Honda cars with Mercedes cars. I love Hondas, and I would prefer a Honda over a Mercedes anyday, even if money were not an issue, but in my mind, Honda is a value brand and Mercedes is a premium brand. I'd choke on my sausage cheese and egg McGriddle the day that Honda decides it will market its cars in a higher price range, just because Mercedes could do the same.

Well. Honda already does, they just don't call them Hondas. Kinda like when Daimler-Benz wanted to market a hyper-luxury car, they called it the Maybach. All about brand perception.

That'd be the Acuras, right? But even the Acrua's aren't priced like the Mercedes. But then again, the Guilds are STILL cheaper than Taylors or Martins, so maybe Guild is trying to take a foothold in the Acura/Lexus niche?

Sure they are. there's nothing equivalent to the S-Class at $100K+, but some of the rest of the range can be pretty pricey.

I'm pretty sure I'd rather they just stick to building guitars. :p

30 pages. Does that mean we can give the topic a rest for awhile?

I see Guild, as a brand, somewhat confused as to what its niche and competition are. We have the Traditional, the Standard and the GAD. The first two seem to be competing with each other as well as with vintage Guilds. The latter doesn't seem to go head to head against Taylors or Martins. I don't really expect to see any clarity until the New Hartford Guilds are firmly established to the point that people buy a new Guild rather than vintage. That requires many things to come together including supply, demand, price and market perception.

Yeah... that'll do.
My bet (back on page 22) was calling for 31 pages, but I'll take 30 as a victory.
I want to take this opportunity to thank all the heavy contributors, etc etc....

I was going to bump the 'Nothing' thread but I didn't have anything to say.

Wool socks ... how do you get them to not itch so much?
