High prices of the new Guilds; maybe should shop around.

This forum is really an awesome place to talk about all things Guild, isn't it?

Were there ever Guild undergarments produced?

I think they made a special strap for Jaco Pastorius' prototype Pilot bass. You know, "Jaco's strap." 8)

Just to change the pace here slightly (although undergarments is always a salient topic!), I wanted to comment on what a nice touch it is that Guild includes on their website quite excellent videos of many of their models. I have enjoyed listening to Willy Porter demonstrating the F-50R, D-55, D40BG, and others.

I think the videos are rather classy, and probably consistent with Guild's desire to be seen as producing instruments in a high quality segment of the market.

Definitely, David.

I think those viddies were posted on youtube a few mos. before the website went live. WP is surely a great resource for the company. I'm really glad he has stayed active as a Guild artist despite the relatively short-lived Contemporary series (including his signature guitar). Who knows, with his influence you might see more Contemporary-like guitars someday.

That's a smart move - get the videos out there, garner some hits, THEN push out the website, so when new visitors go to the site and click on the videos, they'll see a lot of hits. Makes sense to me, at least.

Wait a minute... is today Christmas???
Technically not JC, today is the 26th, and it considered by a large number of persons "the day after Christmas".
That said, it's as good a day as the 25th to be alive and enjoy your Guilds, including, but not limited to, reflecting on the high prices of the new Guilds, and participating in the debate aiming at determining whether or not this warrants shopping around prior to finalizing your decision pertaining to the acquisition of said new Guild.
So close, yet still so far away from page 30....... I need a lawyer to express his opinion here, that could maybe fill the couple of missing pages....

Happy Boxing Day.

Sort of on topic, my nephew combined many Christmas presents to get himself a new guitar. He ended up with one of the 300 series Taylors. He did look for Guilds but the GADs were not what he wanted and the New Hartfords were out of his price range - not to mention that there weren't any in the stores he was in. He needed Acoustic/Electric and the cutaway.

He got his wife a mandolin for Christmas because she expressed a desire to participate in his musical pursuits. This could be interesting in the "family band" sense.

One post closer to 30 pages

Another footstep on the march to page 30.

Among the Irish, today is Lá an Dreoilín. (Wren's Day). A cause to celebrate well. (As are most things Irish.)

Mandolins are a big topic in my house at the moment, too. My son is fixated on me buying him one. I'm all for it, except for the slight issue of post-holiday finances (Lá an Dreoilín notwithstanding). The idea of selling the GAD has even been broached  , but I'd like to avoid that.

Mandolin has taken a lot of my time over the last 10 years, to the benefit of my guitar playing too. They are quite wonderful but a bit of a shock at first with the short scale and narrow fretboard. I with my stiff old fingers took two years to get the hang of it. Watch out- it has on many occasions led to fiddling, and that is like a curse, a demon that demands all of your waking hours, but oh what fun it is to play.
best of luck.

Wasn't this discussed a few pages ago? What a way to stay on topic!
