That's a mighty cool old guitar, too. 8)
Sandy,

Gosh, your picture was taken at a great point in time during their careers..and, (Mr.) Castle, aka Monte (?), used to find outfits for L? WOW! L played the guitar...who knew?

Thanks for sharing,

Toni

Joe, Toni,

You're welcome. I always loved this photo, and Richard (my stepfather) made sure to leave it to me in his will, and I'm so grateful for it. There's something just so cool about it. I really should have asked him about more of the details of the photo, but by the time it occurred to me, his Alzheimer's was advanced to the point that he wouldn't have remembered anyway. :( I'd love to find out who Monte was.

As for Liberace playing the guitar, I don't think so. Also, I think they swapped jackets as well. That jacket that the King is wearing looks more like Liberace than Elvis...

EDIT: Just found another shot from the same session!

Toni, not a "hope chest" per se, but my grandmother's that she used to transport her belongings; there are the remants of an old Railway Express sticker on its side, apparently from their move from Amherst, MA to Groton, MA when my grandfather graduated from UMass. (in the late 'teens's?). We use it to store our winter woolies now...but then, you don't have those in Texas, do you

Bill,

We DO have woolies in Texas  ...and, this past winter was especially cold here (got down to the high teens a couple of nights). We EVEN had a couple days of SNOW and some ice.....took a little longer to melt because it was cold for so long...shut things down for a bit....Texans don't know how to drive in ice or snow...even when it's only a smattering. Yes, Texans have woolies. ....and, thermal long johns....and down-filled coats...gloves...and, the best-looking boots, cowboy boots that is, you've ever seen. AND, to keep our heads warm....hats.

P.S. The trunk (and its history) are very special, indeed.

Sandy,

I agree after seeing the second picture....L definitely did not play the guitar! 8)

Toni

Toni, this next one is another from the series

You can see the whole Gibby there (L5?), and the accompanying article says they swapped jackets as well. 1956 - cool stuff!

Wow, Toni!!! So Texas apparently teaches Economics just like everyone else AND has really nice hats and boots?? Who knew? Apparently it's a full service state? (flippancy gland in overdrive here....) People think the same about Las Vegas.... because it's the desert and hot as HELL in the summer, they think it's always warm here. When in reality, the winters are pretty darn cool and temps go down into the high teens and low 20's. We get snow too. Not much. But we do get it. Had a white Christmas just two years ago. I never had that in Southern California. Tom in Vegas

What a fun thread. Makes me realize I want to make my music space more inviting and less of a jumble of gear:

I wouldn't change a thing, zulu! There's nothing more inviting than a pile of cool gear.

Thanks Scratch and Dave :)
I gotta say though, I SEE that mandolin thingy there...the more I hang around this place the more I'm startin' to think that Guilds are like the gateway drug to mandolins, and, worse, banjos.
I'm re-e-e-a-lly startin' to worry 'boutchyu guys... :?
