I suppose the real question is what are the new Guilds going to say on the label? As long as they don't say "GAD" we should be able to figure it out.

I can already see the eBay auction:

For sale: Guild Con Artist Award
Rare model. Very few made!

Sincerely,

Hans Moust

Bwahahahahaha!!!! Con Artist Award indeed.... (Con for Connecticut, of course -- yeah, right!!! :)). That is an excellent double entendre, Hans.

Fine CT it can be. I just always called it the NH factory. Guess 41 year old habits are hard to change.

Hey Beal,

Let's call them New Hartford Guilds!
I realize we live in a fast world but how much more trouble is it really to write out the name of the city completely?
And in spoken language it's just 3 syllables: new-hart-ford.
Pretty much the same as Hoboken, Westerly, Corona, Tacoma.
I can live with New Hartford Guilds!

Sincerely,

Hans Moust

Hans,
You left out New York Guilds. :)

That makes six locations for Guild guitars. American ones, anyway.

Hey Metalman,

Left New York out on purpose because it didn't work with the 3-syllable thing!
Maybe you missed that part!
Also true for Nashville, which brings the total to seven.

Dear Hans,

How 'bout "Manhattan", and "Tennessee"?

I've already ruled out "Connec'cut" and "Nutmeg State" Guilds. I think 'New Hartford" is fine as long as we don't abbreviate it.

Which is easier, shorter, and faster that 4 syllables - Con-net-i-cut!

(come on guys. Before you start with the links to dictionarys, that's a pretty good phonetic spelling.)

I agree with you, Hans. It's just a matter of getting used to, whether we like it or not. We've always talked about Guilds in reference to the place name of the location where the instrument was made, not the state. Well in a year's time we know for sure what's the expression in fashion or popular use.

At Willie's American Guitars, in St. Paul, Minnesota I just received some of the first guitars from the new factory yesterday. However, they weren't from New Hartford. No we don't sell the GAD Chinese series.....Does anyone know what I'm talking about???
ENSENADA Mexico! Some of you may have seen the DV-6 and the DV-4 from the last year. It was a great Tacoma made, reasonably priced acoustic. Guild discontinued them when Tacoma closed, and suddenly a handful arrived yesterday at the store.
I looked at the label and it said "DV-6(MX)"...Hmmm the box also read "Guild. Made in Mexico".
To me that's right up there with some of the low priced martins that come in and the box says "Martin. America's guitar. Made in Mexico"
SO I pulled one out of the box. The only visual difference is that they didn't stain the mahogany neck, so you have a super light colored neck on a dark body. Other than that it looks identical to the tacoma made version.
The playability and sound were decent. I'm curious to know if they cost less than the tacoma made variety. My guess is that they don't. The guitar isn't bad, and I have nothing against Mexico...but c'mon!!!!!

I didn't know there was anyone left in Mexico to build guitars!

I thought they were all here!

Though I've heard from contractors that the economy is so bad here that "undocumenteds" are moving back to Mexico to find work!
