I have 2 F-212XLs (the slightly larger version of the F-212) that I keep in Open G and Open D/DADGAD and love how they create a satisfying rumble...I keep my Taylor 355 in standard tuning, but occasionally consider finding yet another F-212XL (or a JF-4-12) for standard tuning.

As previously mentioned, THE iconic 12-string! 8)

Hi Terry, have you had a chance to compare the sound of your XL with a standard F212?

Surely...the XL, in most cases, will have just a bit more bass (but the 212 is pretty solid, bass-wise, in it's own right)...but, mostly, I just find the 17" body is more comfortable to play than the 16" body... 8)

Thanks Jim! You both look great on that pic!

Thanks but, That pic was a long time ago, I am sure the guitar still looks good if the person who got it took good care of it but, I don't look any where near as good as I did then at least I don't think so!

THANK YOU TERRY! I've been looking for a reason to have more than one twelver, and you've given me a good one! I don't need the reason or excuse, but the spousal unit seems to think there needs to be a reason for more guitars. The fact that they're Guilds is somehow not sufficient. Go figure.

My wife is pretty good about my "harem" (as The Wife calls my instruments  )...when a previous 12-string got broken by a drunk "cow" falling onto it at a festival, I was going to buy a cheap 12-er (a Takamine) to temporarily replace it until a royalty check arrived and I could get another Guild (either another F-212XL or a JF-4-12, whichever turned out to be the better buy), and she told me, "No, just buy another pro-level instrument...the cheap one'll never bring enough in trade or selling to justify owning it even temporarily, so we'll just cut back on movies and eating out for a month or two!".

Can't say I've ever regretted marrying her! :D

Well, If this is sent to me, It sounds really great loud and bright especially with medium guage Phospher bronze strings. I wish we were close to each other I would let you hear it first hand. Oh and BTW the Braz D-35V is a hoss, too!!!!
Thanks

Time for an update!
Got up early and exited yesterday morning and was on the road after a quick breakfast and an espresso, heading towards that F 212 for sale locally.
After the usual "how are you doing?" "Did you have any problem finding the place?" etc...
The seller (Barry) pulls the Guild out of it's case and immediately says "this is the only problem" pointing at a 3 or 4 inch crack on the guitar. Had he slapped me in the face I would have been less shocked. Mind you, this crack is neither affecting the sound, nor the structural integrity of the guitar, as it is located on the bottom side of the lower bout and almost looks as if a finish crack only. I then proceeded with the testing, and went (to myself, never show any enthusiasm in front of a seller  ) "wow, what a sound"! See, I didn't know what a 12 strings was supposed to sound like since the only one I ever owned a few years back was a fender....
As I was feeling the harpischord-like vibrations of the F212 all over my body, I was thinking that I wanted that guitar really bad, but I guess the disapointment caused by the crack, bordering on anger towards the seller for not giving me all the details over the phone, gave me the courage to throw a low ball offer ($300) at him without feeling too ashamed
He took it like a man but declined, I then thanked him for letting me take a look, and left him with his thoughts. I was about 2 exits away on the road when I got tickled by the cell phone vibrating. It was Barry calling me back to tell me that because he liked the way I had played and looked at his guitar (that he owned since he bought it new in 1975), he tought it would have a good home with me and decided to accept my offer!
I turned the car around and drove back to his place in less time than it takes you to shift in gear  , singing all the way over a loud playing Freddie King CD, and got a hold of what has now become my 1975 F 212!

Then to keep the day going nicely, I had the pleasure of meeting with our fellow LTG'er Capnjuan (we had PM'd each other on the forum after realizing that we lived 5 miles apart from each other  ) and had a great time talking about equipment and everything else, showing him my new old Guild and even making a bit of noise together in his lovely home. Great set up Captain!

I will post pics of the F 212 later (Don't despair Southern  ), or even better, I will wait until the crack is repaired and post before and after pics..... I played it all evening and into the night until my hands started to hurt (litterally), I guess I forgot how wide these 12 strings necks were! But the sound is so rewarding that I had to get in actual physical pain to finally put it down. :D

Hi BP and, again, congratulations on your F212. That rim crack is a little unsightly but it doesn't have anything to do with intonation, tone, or action and can be fixed pretty reasonably. Opinions vary but I think the F212s are great guitars and it was a pleasure to spend time with you listening to your SRV 12-string licks ... pretty impressive stuff! I also very much enjoyed the quality time with your Guild 66J amp; a little clean for my tastes but stout with very crisp, accurate clean tones. Good luck with your guitar ... we'll be talking soon. John

Congrats on a great acquisition. Never thought I'd hear of an F212 going for 300 clams. Great story; there's a song in there somewhere...

Hi Kenny; I don't think BP mentioned that his new F212 also has two, pretty good-sized spots of Danko-itis on the top ... somewhere along the line, somebody really hammered it. Together with the rim crack and balky tuners, the guitar doesn't present especially well. Despite the cosmetics, we slipped a Seymour Duncan single-coil Woodie soundhole pickup on it and piped it through his 66J and one of my Gibson GA20Ts ... with and without 'drive' and 'grind' from a Marshall Bluesbreaker II and you'd have thought SRV hissself had walked in ... BP has some very fine chops. Agree; the price is a little less than what the Guild Value Committee might have put on it but, as they, you had to have been there ... but it has all the necessities; tone, straight neck, and reasonable action. J

Hi Steffan; well ... if I didn't already have one, yes ... I would have bought it in an instant. When I sold the last boat, the first guitar I bought was my '66 F212 and since then, the only other Guild 12-string that ever got me pumped up was the one below; a '60s(?) F512 rosewood 'burst that was Craigslisted in Arizona some time ago; Darryl was kind enough to inquire after it for me ... I guess this would be the one that got away .... :( :
