I figure now's as good a time to show my badge as any:

sticker.jpg

A DV52 NT HR (I think the HR stood for Hand Rubbed finish?), AD520449. I *think* I got this in '97, can't remember. Had no idea what I was getting - my parents wanted to buy me a nicer acoustic (I had been playing a Takamine up til then), walked into Guitar Center, and this was what was recommended. I am completely in love with the sound, and totally dig the matte finish. If I could go back and find the salesman to thank him, I would. Give him a big manly hug, too.

And here's the battle scars, where the wood's actually been worn away around the soundhole, and to a lesser extent, below the pickguard:

soundhole.jpg

It's pretty neat to touch - the inlays (whatever material it's made of) are still there, but the wood around it has been worn away, so the inlay actually creates a relief, of sorts.

Used to be strung with Martin mediums (13-56), but now my hands can't take it anymore so I'm using D'Addario EXP lights (12-53). Plus I like how the EXPs sound mellow out of the package, unlike the Martin strings which sound really bright when new, and take a while to get to the nice mellow sound I like.

I've been chewing the idea of putting a D-TAR multi-source in, to replace the L.R. Baggs pickup (I'm pretty sure it's the LB6 - but again, this was done before I really knew much about the gear I was playing).

I guess that's my formal introduction as a Guild owner, with pictures to back it up. :)

I had a DV-52 for a few months. I really liked the tone. I agree, for the price, they are hard to beat. Also hard to find, but keep your eyes open and they do pop up here and there. It had some bad karma due to shipping damage. I was able to A/B a DV-52 versus a Tacoma D-50 at a local shop and I fell in love with the extra projection of the adirondack top, so I traded it in (please don't hate me dreadnut  ). I can only hope that in 15 years I'll still have the extra volume combined with some of that sweet tone! Sometimes I still wonder about it...who's jamming on it right now, etc...

Call me crazy, but there is something just plain cool about that model number...DV-52...I mean, seriously, doesn't it just sound cool?

The serial number on my DV-52 is EK101037. It has a satin finish, and a herringbone type rosette.

The serial number on my DV-6 is AD062179. It has a high gloss finish, and also a herringbone rosette.

Hello Kostas,

Your DV-52 is from the very end of 1993 and your DV-6 is from 1997. All specs are conform the period they're from.

Sincerely,

Hans Moust

Are you kidding, Blue? I'd only hate you if you traded the DV-52 for another brand of guitar altogether  Besides, you had the shipping damage to deal with too :(

But seriously, I've played several Tacoma D-50's and I absolutely loved every one of them. If I had the shekels, I'd buy one in a heartbeat. Finest dread they've built since Westerly IMHO.

What would be great is to hear the DV-52 and the Tac D-50 singing harmony :D When are we gonna get together, Blue?

Yah, that shipping damage was just bad karma all around.

How 'bout we meet at Walnut Valley Festival in Kansas in September?! Jam at the campsites and then watch the national flatpickin' championships? I'm serious! I've always wanted to go and my work schedule may allow it this year. I'm gonna try to get some of the Larrivee Forum folks to meet me there as well. It would be a blast!

Hans,

Thank you for the date information, and for taking the time both to look it up, and to write back.

Guilty...

But, I cannot second guess my decision. As great as the DV52 was, I was not a good enough player to do those sweet & boomy rosewood tones justice.

DV-52's on craigslist SF/Bay Area - $600 and under - tempted

That one in the Bay area is the one I posted about. Exchanged a couple emails, asked some questions about the condition, then the guy abruptly stopped responding. Hence, I'm now the owner of a DCE1 not a DV-52.

It's nice being the recipient of Fungie's castaways, ain't it, Scratchy?! :D :D

Best wishes, guys.

FYI, Mike, the JF-30-12 is now in perfect playing shape! My luthier built a new nut and set the guitar up perfectly for me. She really sings now!

Awesome, Chazmo. That was one amazing sounding guitar (like a grand piano!), but I'm sure it plays & sounds even better now.

You guys have no idea how lucky I feel to know the likes of Chazmo, Dr. Spivey & Scratch own the Guilds I used to... none of those guitars were easy to let go, but I know I made the right decisions & it feels great to know they're in such well cared for hands now.

Happy weekends to all!

There is a slight lifting of the binding on the lower left bout (any tips on this?) and wear on the soundhole.
But my friend described the sound as loud and big sounding. :D :D

Cured it! Done!

Thank you Paul (for letting it go) and thank you Alex! (who picked it up)

It lands in my hands in the first week of May!

:D  :D

G-yeah!

Congrats!!!

You sure it's a good idea to let someone hold on to a Guild for you for that long? Especially a DV-52? Might be risking losing a friend... :)

Treem, if you snagged that git - good one on ya!

I only wish I had scored that DV-52 in the South Bay area for $600. But I tried. Lord knows I tried. Gets me to the church on time.

Enjoy!

Thank You Jesus!
