oldsmobile is a stupid name for a car. Maybe GM finally realized that and that's why they ended it

Do we know how to veer or what?
Technological innovation influencing brand identity perception in marketplace. Corporate parent practicing selective child-rearing. Typical end user yawning in in awe. The parallels are chilling, aren't they? It's even more deadly serious in the world of children's toothbrushes. Can't even keep a design around longer than a year. And every one of 'em an ergonomic nightmare, but they're by g-d fun to look at!

Veering is something at which we seem to excel. <------ I had to word it like that otherwise, I kept ending my sentence with a preposition.

No, "Achieva" and "Escalade" are stupid names for cars. Everybody knows cars should either be named for numbers, or fast animals, or top predators. "AK47" could work too.
Or maybe a Beatles tune, like "the Walrus".

Reminds me of the joke about the Texan on his first day at Harvard....

Texan to a Harvard guy: Say buddy, can you tell me where the library's at?
Harvard guy: My good man, we here at Harvard never end a sentence with a preposition!
Texan: OK then, can you tell me where the library's at, a**hole?

Sportage...now that's a stupid car name

Toothbrushes...don't get me started! Why can't you buy a hard bristle toothbrush anymore?

I can and do. but it isn't easy. I've only found hard bristled ones at a couple stores, and finding one with equal length bristles is even harder.
so why do I try so hard to find a hard bristled toothbrush with equal length bristles? so I can clean the oldsmobile seats in my cadillac. see, oldsmobile was good at something in the 90's- making really comfortable seats.

have I gone full circle yet?

Just a chime-in on all this banter about guitar companies and such that was starting to sound like a pi$$ing contest before the GM / Chevy / McDonalds posts came along to rescue the thread....

Martin rocks. Guild rocks. Taylor seems to rock (don't have enough info there, and really not curious since all my needs are filled by Martin and Guild, thank you very much). Gibson rocks but is way overpriced.

The people who are raising a ruckus over sudden new lines of lesser quality by old-world manufacturers need to remember that this is a game of survival. Moreover (and more to the point), it's been done for years, so this aint nothin' new (remember Sigma by Martin?). You need to look beyond the GADs and the Martin marketing tricks and shenanigans (Mexican-built dreads, no-finish dreads, plastic guitars, etc.), and those cardboard Epiphones, and so forth.

Remember that for the most part these companies all retain their fine, top-end lines ---still great guitars. Fender/Guild's attempt to regain its place in the market is admirable in deed (not so much in spirit, I do concede). Yes, many jobs were shipped overseas, and yes there are many fine (as well as lots of inferior) products making their way to our fair shores from China and other such places. And yes, Fender is reprehensible in many of its practices (as are many other so-called American companies taking refuge under the, ahem, "global" banner). But New Hartford, at the very least, offers a few decent, American jobs. And from what I can see, New Hartford is producing some damned fine stuff. It' not a lot in terms of the huge exodus of manufacturing work, but it's nice to know they're trying, at least.

And does anybody really know how to pronounce "Hyundai"?
How the h-ll did they ever build a brand identity? ("First thing we do, we gotta teach people how to say the name. Then we'll tell 'em about our cars")

Dentists recommend soft bristle for a better cleaning.
(Thought I would throw a lil' sumthin as my contribution to the Guild History thread.)

Lite or Extra Lite steel strings of .11 or .12 gauge do NOT a good flossing method make.

But if your doctor says that you need more phosphor in your diet...?

'S funny you mention that, you're right, and it's why I liked Reach brand toothbrushes, small head /soft bristle (I've actually got a comparatively small jaw, post count notwithstanding)
Now they just don't make that combo anymore, no doubt due to lack of sales.
Reminds me of the situation with the currrent F30: I can't get a shortscale with a 1-11/16th nut. :(
Howzzat for a back-to-topic simile?

I hate it when a post goes back ON TOPIC right when I have some toothbrush issues to discuss. Damn!!
If it's related to your favorite brand of toothbrush somehow failing to maintian it's postition in the market place, I think we'd all love to hear it.
There are also some amazingly similar issues in the hotly contested market for shoe polish.
Speaking of which, have you ever tried to stain a guitar with shoe polish and a tooothbrush?
I tell ya, it ain't pretty.

My dentist says they are bad for the gums and has tried to get me to believe that my gum disease is a direct result of hard bristled toothbrushes. I'm gonna feel silly again if that was a rhetorical question.
