They're gonna be hard to beat in the Series if they keep batting like they are!

It's what happens when you actually swing the bat......hits. If only the Brewers wouldn't stare down the first pitch they might have a chance against the Cardinals. But I'm really impressed with the Rangers. I see a World Series celebration in the Lone Star state.

Never really could wrap my head around taking the first pitch :x . I wish they'd quit teaching that in little league as well.

I see the Rangers starting rotation as good, not great and I see Rangers defense as solid. But I see Rangers offense as second to none. Rangers relief is very good. It will take consistent, superb pitching to beat them. But then I also see Albert Puhols as a one man offense.......man I'd hate to have to pitch to that guy. Should be interesting. I'm guessing the Cards will win one of the next two.

Shaun Marcum gives up 4 runs in the first. I'm starting to see a pattern here. I think I'll watch the Bears-Vikings game.

Hoping for a Cardinals win; they hold their spring training camp at a local stadium here ... Go Cards!

I'm usually not so thrilled about the World Series as I am about the playoffs but this looks like it should be a great one. I'm a National League guy... Braves anyway (Reds too!) but I'm hoping for a Rangers victory. Hope the rain stays away.

I could do without the best of 7 in the playoffs. Gotta hand it to the commentators game after game that's for sure. They definitely have the gift for gab. :D
I'm not crazy about the wildcard birth either. All season ya have your chance. Can't muster up? You're done. Actually the game really drives me crazy. I love it but I'm pretty critical of sloppy performances. Given their salaries there's no excuse for not running it out to first base, missing signs, missing the cutoff, a pitcher not being able to lay down a bunt in the National League, or a hitter "waiting for his pitch". I just watch so many hitters take too many pitches. Are ya a hitter? Then hit!!!
God I just love being an armchair manager!!

At least get rid of the best of seven in the playoffs. They said they're gonna add even more (regular season?)games that'll put the Series into November  !

Tell ya what drives me crazy. Having coached kids for so many years, one thing that I always stressed was not taking a close pitch for a 3rd strike, you've got to take a shot........but these guys do it all of the time......and sometimes in very critical situations. It frustrated me as a coach and infuriates me watching MLB. Josh Hamilton did it a little while ago in his first at bat.

OMG....I was caught up with all that Rangers play-off traffic.
Thank You! big-time to the parking lot attendants at the Sheraton-Arlington, TX (and to our Gracious Lord) for the free parking privileges, after the tiresome day long trip to the hotel & convention center.

Last year Dave, during the ALCS, the valets at the Sheraton were great. They not only got me tickets to the game, but with paid parking towards the front of the Sheraton lot, they allowed my son to park free at the hotel and attend the game with us. I had to make that worth their while. They do give first class service there.

I loved being a LL coach. I did it for 10 years; coaching 4 nights a week and practice on Saturdays. Pee Wee League Monday and Wednesday, LL Tuesday and Thursday, and on Saturday I brought all the kids together to practice and have fun. I had some of older kids mentor the younger ones and it was a blast. I dropped Pee Wee after a couple of years to coach Pony League. The rec board had moved PW to my LL night and I just didn't want to quit coaching the Little Leaguers.

I quit coaching after my team witnessed an altercation between parents, coaches, and umpires on an adjacent field. It was a disgraceful and even violent display. We were in the middle of the championship game, about the 4th inning when I asked the kids what we should do. One of 'em spoke up and said, "Let's just call it quits and forfeit. Mom would be proud of us." :) So we agreed and I told the ump we forfeit. The opposing coach said, "You can't do that cause we forfeit".

In the paper the next day it was reported that the rec dept decided their were two champions in our LL bracket and both teams got their small trophies. I miss coaching but I can't go back to that type of behavior as I actually think it has gotten worse from the stories I've been hearing. And of course a small town of about 10K has a number of clicks and that never is good as near as I can figure. For ten years my kids had fun, parents had fun, and IMHO we all set an example. Never once were voices raised. And over the years, I have been so proud of who/what my kids have become.

I've gotta couple of great/funny stories to tell. Look for 'em.

Oh yeah, what a game last night. Not a good call at all in the 9th inning for the Rangers. The ump should have known what was what but that's the way it goes.

Funny thing is that the majority of that stuff seemed to happen down here when the kids were little. Man, tee ball games could be brutal with altercations between parents and parents, parents and coaches, and umpires and both. As the boys get older, two things happened, those parents who don't understand the game, and the unjustices that take place, are gone with the kids that either couldn't make it to the next level, or didn't want to. By the time we got to high school baseball, only the best ballplayers were still in the game, and only the parents who knew the game. The coaches were professional and that helped too. In a high school game, unless something exciting was happening, you could here a pin drop most of the time.

In the end, my youngest decided he no longer wanted to play if he couldn't play at a college he desired. After seeing what college ball has put some of the players through, who I know personally, I'm glad he didn't. Just as an example, at his school, Stephen F. Austin State University, players are doing baseball related activities 8 hours a day, and expected to maintain at least 12 credit hours. The players are required to do both civic work and practice like mad men, with both fall and spring seasons....the schedule is brutal. I honestly don't know how they do it. As much as I miss watching him play, he made the right decision.

As for the Rangers, welp, they lost game 1 to the Yankees in last year's ALCS, and they lost this year's ALDS game 1 to the Rays.....we'll see.

I coached for a long time. The last year I coached was one for the books. I will never ever ever do that again. I salute anyone who wants to put themselves out there, but if you want to lose a little of your faith in humanity, coach youth baseball.

Kudos to anyone who coaches kids and putting up with the "adults". I'd do it too if I didn't have to deal with the parents  . The last Little League game I attended was my nephews a couple of years ago and I was embarrased for the kids. Parents belittling not only their kids but others as well. I bet they sucked when they played but now they're know-it-alls. I grew up in a baseball family(Little League, Babe Ruth and High School) and have been to numerous pro and semi-pro games and love it. But I remember the best times were the pick-up games us kids formed on our own. I don't guess kids do that anymore.... gotta be an adult there to correctly display to the kids how to show their a$$
