Don't know what all the fuss is. We all know that the best source of Guild guitars is us :)

Just on 6-8 weeks ago 2 seperate retailers here told me that Guild was going back to producing guitars in Westerly! Just fitting out a new state of the art facility etc, etc. "But they just moved to New Haven" I said, with some sceptism - "No, no, definately going back to Rhode Island", they assured me.

Down next to our olympic stadium and a short drive from Runanga International Airport there's been a "mystery building" going up for some months. Security is tight and a great deal of activity takes place at night.

Yesterday, our Lord Mayor confided to me that the building is a joint venture facility between Guild and Oldsmobile.

Watch this space.

My guy says they might make a few of these ... and some in rosewood (can't tell you who he is though; I met him in a parking garage; he stood behind a column wearing a raincoat, hat, and sunglasses smoking a cigarette; he said I should call him 'Deep Bout')

I've just been on the phone to the Mere and apparently there's been some confusion over the venture.

Turns out , we're talking about the People's New Order Oldsmobile company based in Wanking, China who manufacture mobility scooters.

Gotta get more information on the Guild side of the venture.

Stay tuned.

You continue to show your arrogance.

I hope this makes it through the LTG censor bureau.

What's this all about then, did I miss something ?

 Ian,

What's this all about? Well let's see, I had mentioned that I had played a D28 Martin that I loved ( :( She's gone now) and Ken had mentioned that the dealer that had that particular D28 had looked into carrying Guild, but with a 15 guitar minimum, he decided against it. I then asked how the dealer was going to find 15 Guilds? Then started a very informative and facinating discussion about Guild in which Frono apparently implied that people in Texas (me) are mentally inferior. As I can allow that stuff to blow through one ear and right out the other, considering the source, a friend of mine has a more difficult time..........and I love him for it.

Sorry you've missed it, but it's still there for your reading pleasure. :) How's that prototype? I checked on the D28 last night, and she's sold. I'm wondering if an LTG member bought her? If so, they got a dandy.

Sorry you lost your chance at that Martin, West. The HD-28s are really terrific guitars, and it doesn't surprise me that a Guild D lover would enjoy one. Really. One thing about Martins is that they do hold their value quite a bit better than the Guilds. Perception/reality/size-of-market? I dunno, but it seems true to me.

The mid-90s D-28s are a particularly good sweet spot though for a good price, at least that was my experience.

Well she wasn't just a D28 Chaz, in fact, not just an HD28. She was an HD28 custom....an '09. My take on her was that the bracing pattern, which was the "custom" part of her, just made the tone of that particular guitar. I love deep sounding dreads, and she had the deepest voice I'd ever heard.....not quite the tone of the DV's, but close.....and she had a much deeper low end.

And no "sorrys" required Chazmo, if I'd have wanted her bad enough, I'd have forked out the extra $200. My loss, but I have no regrets......tremendous guitar though.

Here she is......or was.

Fair enough. The bracing makes a huge difference. I wonder what, specifically, was custom about the bracing. The D, HD, and HDV models differ primarily in that area and they do sound quite different from each other.

Seems like he said it was a Gruhn design and that the top bracing was moved slightly towards the upper bout, allowing much more vibration of the top at the lower bouts.........and you could sure hear it. She also had an Adirondack top, and how much depth that could have added, I don't know. In his description, he had it listed as a D28, but looking through the soundhole, it said "HD28 Custom". Looking back, he was probably pretty reasonable on the price....oh well.

Keep in mind that I was wanting to walk out of there for $2000, but by the time he added tax to his $2200, I'd have been looking at $2400.

Jim,

I know you're a rosewood kind of guy, but if you liked that HD28 and its deep low end, you'd probably like my D18 David Crosby Signature just as much. It has the deepest bass of any dread I've ever played, with the possible exception of a $7K D18 Authentic that I tried, though the DC has a adjustable truss rod which is always nice.

I'll bring it to Arlington in October if it won't get me thrown out of the Yacht Club.

Now that would be cool Sandy. Love to play it.
