Just fitting out a new state of the art facility etc, etc. "But they just moved to New Haven" I said, with some sceptism - "No, no, definately going back to Rhode Island", they assured me.

My guy says they might make a few of these ... and some in rosewood (can't tell you who he is though; I met him in a parking garage; he stood behind a column wearing a raincoat, hat, and sunglasses smoking a cigarette; he said I should call him 'Deep Bout')coastie99 said:... Yesterday, our Lord Mayor confided to me that the building is a joint venture facility between Guild and Oldsmobile. Watch this space.

I hope this makes it through the LTG censor bureau.

Chazmo said:Sorry you lost your chance at that Martin, West. The HD-28s are really terrific guitars, and it doesn't surprise me that a Guild D lover would enjoy one. Really. One thing about Martins is that they do hold their value quite a bit better than the Guilds. Perception/reality/size-of-market? I dunno, but it seems true to me.
The mid-90s D-28s are a particularly good sweet spot though for a good price, at least that was my experience.
Chazmo said:Fair enough. The bracing makes a huge difference. I wonder what, specifically, was custom about the bracing. The D, HD, and HDV models differ primarily in that area and they do sound quite different from each other.
West R Lee said:Well she wasn't just a D28 Chaz, in fact, not just an HD28. She was an HD28 custom....an '09. My take on her was that the bracing pattern, which was the "custom" part of her, just made the tone of that particular guitar. I love deep sounding dreads, and she had the deepest voice I'd ever heard.....not quite the tone of the DV's, but close.....and she had a much deeper low end. West

Jim,
I know you're a rosewood kind of guy, but if you liked that HD28 and its deep low end, you'd probably like my D18 David Crosby Signature just as much. It has the deepest bass of any dread I've ever played, with the possible exception of a $7K D18 Authentic that I tried, though the DC has a adjustable truss rod which is always nice.
I'll bring it to Arlington in October if it won't get me thrown out of the Yacht Club.
