Re: Today is

Congrats, tomek. Lots of new guitars around here lately.
Give us the full report when she arrives. :D

Good one on ya! You'll dig it!

As required with your newly obtained membership in the solid body forum you will need to submit a report in triplicate, complete with 8x10 color glossy pictures with circles and arrows and a paragraph on the back explaining what each one is. ;)

Re: Today is

Awesome! Tuners are grovers, right? That missing cap should be easy to replace. Congrats on the score.

Re: Today is

Man, that's very much like mine, only a good bit cleaner. I'm surprised to see these going so close to a grand these days, too. Should be a great guitar, and cool that it's got orig. equipment rotomatics on it instead of the sta-tites mine has. Very pretty!

A random S-100 question: is there a certain timeline for pickguard colors on these? Mine's black but it seems like I also see clear ones on similar vintage guitars like your new one.

Might have to go down to TX and rescue mine from its in-storage-at-mom's-house status...

Re: Today is

Thanks guys! I will be sure to document every little detail here :)
It's all happening so quickly, it's like a dream! hehe

Just two weeks ago, I had to pleasure to touch a '74 S-100 at the local shop.
I didn't even plug it in, but didn't have to. Got major GAS for it, and started scheming.
A smart LTG member advised me they want too much for it ($1300CND + tax). Thanks Qvart!

Now two weeks latter, I through in (what I consider) a ridiculously low bid not expecting to get it.
BINGO-BANGO-BONGO you are the winning bidder! Holly smokes!
It appears to be way better condition than the one at the shop, and we share the same birth year! Wow!

Appears they are Grover Rotomatic tuners. Anyone got a cap lying around? hehe
Not sure about the pick gourd colours either.. The '74 at the shop has a clear one too.
I check my copy of Hans' book for ya, but no mention of it, sorry.

So far the seller seems awesome.. I think she will ship it today. :)
Here is a quote from her reply when I made for packing requests:
(looks like she beat me to it!)

"Oh yes, I have soft but thick foam under the neck inside the case and big bubble wrap around the head, strings loosened but not too much - I'm sure you'll appreciate the packing job. There are no voids inside the case either. Styrofoam around the outer case should make it pretty shock-proof. ;-) "

Hehe, had to fix that line for ya! ;)

If you're not sure about parting with your Flyer then don't plug in the S-100! Walk away, walk away... It's a slippery slope! ;)

See, I warned you! ;)

I hope the condition is as good as it looks online. BTW: mine matches my birth year as well - 1974. Crazy to think where that thing was when I was in, say, grade school, junior high, high school, etc.

I bought a '96 S-100 off of Ebay and one of the Grovers was shot. I went to to their website and sent a message asking for info and - to my surprise - I got a quick response telling me to ship it to them for replacement. Not only that but the turnaround was super quick - like four days! I don't know if they could help you out or not but it's worth a shot. I was very surprised and pleased they took care of mine - so much so that I posted this thread about it.

Me neither. Hans is the man for that question. I've seen various colors but the clear ones seem to show up on the natural or "nature boy" finished S-100's.

I hope you dig your new git as much as I dig my '74. Just remember I warned you about the S-100 addiction! ;)

And now I will engage in the second favorite activity of LTG'ers after pursuing ones own GAS impulses: living vicariously through another person's GAS pursuits! ;)

Re: Today is

LOL! too funny.

yes, yo did warn me! haha
Yes, let keep our fingers crossed re: condition!

I know, I just love smelling the old wood, and thinking about it's life and
what it's seen, and played over the years. (yes I have problems -hehe)

I'll email Grover as soon as (if) I can get off this forum! hehe

I like the way the clear pick guard looks on the natural finish.
Guild is the 1st I'd seen that on, and then the deArmonds.

Carry on. hehe

Edit - added message from seller:

"Hi, Yes, it belonged to Chuck Moses, a dear friend of mine. He rocks! You can check him out at http://cdbaby.com/cd/mosesmusic "

Re: Today is

Welcome to the club. As you can see below, it probably won't stop there. I can't imagine actually seeing one for sale locally. Hope it all works out well (shipping, tuner...). It sounds like you got a choice deal.

Tomek:

That's a great deal! I hope to do likewise someday. These S-100s have some kind of a powerful vibe, even from a distance. Good luck with your beautiful new Guild.

Re: Today is

Thanks Dawg..

Looks like she arrived at my friend's house (in the US) yesterday!
Holly crap that was fast shipment!

Unfortunately he wasn't home, so hopefully he'll get down to the post office
and pick her up for me today or tomorrow.

I'll get him to do a quick inspection, and it should be arriving in Vancouver this Monday! :)
(His GF is going to drive it up for me as she's down there every weekend)

Re: Today is

Hi Guys,
Sorry it took a while to get into my hands, after the delivery to the states.
After that, I've been too busy playing her and trying to set her up to my satisfaction...

In the end I have to take her in to the doctors, because I can't get the action low enough...
http://www.letstalkguild.com/phpBB2/viewtopic.php?f=11&t=13525

It's good at the top, but gets worse and worse as we move down the neck.

I hope it's just a matter of punching the frets down, and getting them leveled.
I hope it doesn't need a neck re-set.. :?

Hopefully I'll get her into the luthier this week and see what he says..

Re: Amature Smut ---> '73 S-100

Well Guys, You asked for it!
Sorry some of the pics are a little out of focus, as I'm just getting use to this camera.

I was going to hold out until the restoration is complete, but here goes, in her raw form...
No facial (cleaned conditioned fingerboard) No make-up (polish) No pedicure (frets dressed)

IMG_0295.jpg

IMG_0297.jpg

She's going to need a cap

IMG_0305.jpg

IMG_0306.jpg

This will need a clean-up by the Luthier
IMG_0310.jpg

One inch piece of the binding came off so I glued it back on w/ white glue
side.jpg

This is all the action I could get (she's still a little shy)
side2.jpg

Once she sees the beautishian to get this taken care of she'll be more confident and playful
frets.jpg

Now what the hell is with these bridge pins?

Oh BABY! Nice looking one. I really like the back of the headstock especially.
