So what guitar is that? Looks like a solid body cutaway 12 string, with only a bridge pickup?!?

I was confused as well. Was there ever a starfire III-based 12-string?

Yea he’s got that guitar up high right under his arm pit. I ride’m high sometimes, the big advantage is his chord hand is just under his eyes and in his peripheral. If you need to see your fingers make chord changes it’s a big help without turning your head. I try not to look down at my hand because it distracts from singing. I’m too old to hang my guitar down to my knees anymore, some things were best left in the 1980’s.

Hey I’ve seen this photo a couple of times before, however I just noticed that guitar has a mahogany neck. I always thought that was an F50 and not an F40. I know a lot of early F40s, G30s and a couple other maples had mahogany necks. But I don’t think I’ve seen an early F50 with mahogany other than the newer Corona and Standard series. I’m thing now this is a smaller F40, looks like standard block inlays as well. ??

Right, also, it has a chesterfield. ;)
Good thing it's not one of those uncommon F40M's with a 'hog colored body and neck, or you might have never even asked! :D

Not sure I can get a link to post here, but on another board saw a variety TV show from LA, Bobbi Gentry was the hostess, with Ritchie Havens, Ian & Silvia, John Hartford and The Staples Singers. In their bit (at about the 13 minute mark), Pops Staples is playing a maple Starfire... Ritchie Havens appears to be playing a Martin (square headstock) later on.
