Early 90s S-100. Neck is the same as my greenie, roller bridge, Grovers, rounded fretboard at the neck joint, but it has Duncans, so it's definitely a transition piece...I am guessing 95. The kicker is it has taken a spill. The headstock broke clean up from the low E tuner to the tip of the headstock. It didn't break off all the way, though, and was repaired by Gary Brawer (http://www.brawer.com/). Talked the guy down to $580 shipped. Thoughts? Worth the risk? Gary seems to be a pretty reputable guy, so I'm pretty comfortable that the fix is solid, but I'm interested in other opinions as well before I send this guy the scratch.

Tough call. That cracked headstock on a white guitar really stands out.

I love S-100s, no question, but I don't have any personal experience with the 90s ones. It looks like a really nice guitar but that price still seems a bit high to me, especially in these times, especially considering that repaired headstock. Don't get me wrong - I don't care if a guitar isn't mint as long as it was a real player, but I'd personally be happier if that was on a guitar with a natural or at least semi-transparent finish. It wouldn't be so glaring then. Now, if that price was for an earlier S-100, I'd be all over it.

I'd be curious about how the neck feels on these 90s models.

So - you gonna go for it?

Hi Hammer; fwiw glue joints done properly form a bond between the wood and glue that is stronger than the natural bond between wood fibers ... maybe not as pretty but it's stronger now than it was before. Maybe could smoosh a little white fingernail polish on it to diminish the 'scar' factor? The RIs might not bring as much as the '70s models but considering the repair and the price includes shipping, that's a decent discount against the market. Good luck. CJ

I knew about the glue joints being stronger, but wasn't so sure about it here because of where it is, with the tuner screws going right into the break. As far as looks, it's on the back of the headstock and didn't go all the way through, so I'm good there. But I've been dying for a white S-100 and this one is identical to my greenie except for the pups. I think I'm gonna pull the trigger.

Yes; a little worrisome that the screw is on the line of the crack ... suggesting that maybe when the first screw went in, it fractured the original glue joint along the 'ear' making that joint a little more susceptible to bad luck. Otherwise ... good luck! CJ

My understanding is that the 94 and 95 reissues were cut to the same specs as the 70s models. My 94 is 1 5/8" at the nut. The 96+ models have a much chunkier neck.

Meh...I guess if those ears are glued on to begin with, it shouldn't be much of a big deal.

Well, you've already heard my opinion. I think it's an okay price and if it weren't for the crack and the color I probably would have snagged it.

As for the year - the SN makes it a '94 but (as Hans says) they didn't always leave the factory in numbered order, so who knows. Looks like a 'tween to me if those are Duncans. I'd hold off judgment until you have it in your hands. And pull the p'ups this time, with pictures please! ;)

Yea, I know...you've got somethin' against whitey. And I'm getting less and less worried about the crack...I didn't even think about the fact that that piece is glued on to begin with.

Well...Whitey is home...although...she has aged to more of a nice cream...but I am not calling her Creamy...that just seems wrong somehow. She's got a lot of...what's the word for a whole mess of dings, bumps and bruises? Oh yea..."mojo". 8) Actually not too bad...she was definitely played. It looks like the switch cap was replaced at some point, the knobs have seen better days and the neck pup ring is cracked in one spot...so if anyone has an extra pup ring, black knobs or switch tip let a brutha know! The break repair seems to be pretty damn solid. The SDs sound purty nice...I actually kinda dig em. Aside from that, everything is identical to the greenie. Maybe I'll put her in safe keeping somewhere and lug this one around the house where ever I decided to plop my fat arse down to play, cuz I'm not going to worry about dinging her up quite as bad. Oh...and she was dddddirrrty. A bit of cleaning took care of that though. Pics to follow...at some point. So far, me likes.

I found a s-100 reissue and I need some info on it.

A guy who is selling this one agreed on swaping this one for my mint '06 Guild GAD JF-30 + €€. How much extra € should I offer him?

THAT is a sweet S-100! I dig those square cases too!

The serial number means it's post-'97, so probably '98 or '99. Can't tell you what to offer in addition to the GAD, but those reissues go for $800-$900 here. Some finishes fetch more than others (e.g., white). The natural finish doesn't seem to be in high demand, but I'd go with $800 as a round figure for any S-100 with no serious issues. A quick glance at the internets shows the GAD going for around $1000 new, and selling on Ebay for about $500-$800. Might be an even swap, but if the seller wants some cash to boot then toss in a bit more, but I wouldn't give more than maybe an extra $100 (or about €50-60).

Whatever you figure out, I say snag it! (but I'm a bit biased ;) ).
