If I were to purchase a Gibson Hummingbird?

I’ve joined a band and while I have 6 guitars already I’m really wanting a Hummingbird! Any one have one and any thoughts on them? The walnut back and sides are killing me!
the Hbird should be hog back and sides. Walnut?

I think it’s a relatively new development (the walnut) but it’s intriguing. My D40 has all the hog I need so looking for a different tone wood and it looks freaking beautiful (no tree nut allergy I promise!)

Had one, think it was a early 2000s model. Sweet sounding and playing guitar. If the walnut is putting you off, look for an older one with mahogany back and sides.

The current ones come in either walnut, rosewood or mahogany. The walnut ones list for $2700 and the mahogany ones start at $3500. But you should be able to get 15% off on a purchase of that amount.

The walnut is kinda selling it to me - I’m now just deciding if it’s a walnut bird or a J-45

My experience with walnut as a tonewood is that it's a wonderful sound... Warmer than mahogany, and not as warm as rosewood. It's too bad there aren't any Guilds using walnut for a tonewood.

So, I was just thinking.... Guild, how about a walnut F-55?? That would be a GSR that would be worthy (IMO).

I dunno, as far as getting a Hummingbird I would concur "yes," but go traditional or go home! LOL

What's this "thin body" stuff, even on the SJ-200? Not the Gibsons of the old days, someone is still
mucking with the formula.

And where, is the cherry sunburst?

Look for a used one in good to excellent condition ;)

I recently bought a new Custom Shop Hummingbird. It's mahogany. It has the "thermally aged top". Which I thought was a gimmick so Gibson could charge over $1K more. But as I listened to a bunch of videos, I was annoyed that I could really hear the difference between this custom shop model and the standard hummingbird. My local shop (Wildwood Guitars - great shop and alternative to GC/MF/SW) had 3 so I tried them out. I talked to the owner and he was also skeptical of the "thermally aged top" concept until he heard the guitars. This hummingbird has magical overtones. Which lots of guitars do. But I loved it and didn't even compare to standard models. And, there was quite a bit of tonal variation among the 3 custom shop models I tried.

I also owned a 2021 J-45 for a while. It was a great guitar, but not as magical as this custom shop hummingbird.

I agree with Bill that I've heard mixed reviews about the thin body studio models.
