Here's the short of it. This site exists as a site for musicians of any level with an affection for the Guild brand.
Makes no difference how civil the discussions are. The fact of the matter is, that our views of the people around us change as we learn more about them. Much of the time those changes aren't for the better & in a text only venue, attitudes ultimately show themselves throughout the forum which have no benefit to the membership as a whole.
I won't facilitate a side forum that will damage the community & drive folks away in anger or hurt, that has nothing to do with the reason we all came to be here.

Don, at the risk of sounding patronizing, your perception of human nature and the etiquette required to maintain harmony and even mutual affection shows profound wisdom and is undoubtedly the reason for this site being as wonderful as it is.
Thank you sincerely for sticking to your ideals. It's your show, you can run it any way you want 'cause what you've done so far seems to work quite well.

I know for a fact, that more than one relationship formed here that were highly regarded by the individuals with mutual respect & admiration, have been broken/strained, & some essentially abandoned over opposing views & disagreements which came about through political discussions.

That's all I need to know. I withdraw my suggestion. My intentions were good, but I didn't know about the above.

On a more reverential note, thanks dread. I've even sent out a couple of "Olive Branch" PM's to folks when I thought I might have given unintentional offense. Perhaps I can "veer" this into a suggestion for any who may want to repair broken bridges in the spirit of the season?
Let me say right out I've enjoyed wonderful comradery here and if any are worried I've ever been offended, DON'T WORRY! I never have. (Not here anyway! :lol
I'm also reminded of Don's desire to keep this place "PG rated" and while I know I'm guilty of perhaps skating over that line occasionally myself, I'll admit I try to rationalize it with the perception that I honestly DON'T think there's a great chance of someone's impressionable young child stumbling onto some of our wilder ramblings. I think it'd all pass Jay Leno's censors anyway.
Darryl: True wisdom lies in the willingness to change one's opinions when new evidence is discovered...as you have demonstrated so well... I guess it's just one of the burdens of modern living that the task of sorting out truth from fiction has to be so tough.
