Lord, grant me the senility to forget the people I never liked in the first place, the good fortune to keep meeting up with those I do like, and good enough eyesight to recognize them when I do.

I don't know a favorite but a previous Townes Van Zandt quote made me remember another of his.
When a woman asked why his songs were so sad he said" They're not sad, they're hopeless"

Banjo picker credo. "I know 3 chords and where to put a capo".

@ Retro.... that's the honest truth!! One of the saddest songs I've EVER heard is Tecumseh Valley. I can't get through it, listening, playing, singing.... just can't do it. Saddest thing I've ever heard..... and hopeless. Sheesh. Tom in Vegas

That's the vid and the song, davisman! When Nancy Griffith starts crying it sure tears at you.
Tecumseh Valley is the song that made me start listening to Townes.

@ retro, that's the song that made me look at Townes van Zandt as well. Anyone that can reduce me to a mess like that song can, deserves my attention. It's just perfectly written.

@ Scott, that's the song that made me start listening to Nanci Griffith. She's truly amazing.

Back on track.......

I always loved this one:

Let me first me state that this is not intended as a slam to any particular side of the political discourse...

Politicians, like diapers, should be changed often and for the same reason. --Mark Twain
