I own one Guild here (among some high priced Martins) and it is often my favorite guitar. It cost me right near what your budget allows (I found a very nice deal, but I believe it is not hard to get a deal similarly with some haggling.) It is the Tacoma made DV-4. See if you have any local Guild dealers and if they have one in stock. Giver 'er a spin. I was just curious about Guilds one day, played a couple D-40's and this DV-4 and the DV-4 just grabbed me. Distinct, clear, loud, woody, tone. Well built. Nice case.
The current (Tacoma) DV-4 is quite different from the former DV-4's. Mine is 2007. It is all solid wood, flat back, mahogany (the DV-6 is rosewood, I don't have any experience with that one.) It has scalloped bracing, a real plus for the sound I like. It has a satin finish and is a very simple looking guitar. But the sound and playability rival lots of guitars at much higher costs in my opinion. I am very happy to have purchased this guitar.
My recommendation, check out a recent DV-4. I don't disagree with the D25 recommendations, by the way, they're fine guitars. I can say I favor this DV-4 over those others I've played, and having bought it new, I have a lifetime warranty, worth a lot assuming the guitar stays here, and it probably will.
