John Dawson (musician) - Wikipedia

Love the New Rider's for about 40 years now.. But the Marmaduke nick was unknown to me and is probly fairly niche. Would be easier for a lot of us to pick up on "Marmaduke of the New Rider's of the Purple Sage" or something similar. That would be a different Marmaduke!
John Dawson from New Riders of the Purple Sage.Okay I feel like a really dumb old guy... who TF is Marmaduke... ???
OH man... and he's dead too!! And he died in San Miguel de Allende in MX!! I'd love to live there. What a beautiful city... HUGE americano colony there. But since the Americans moved in ... prices are UP and ... kinda like Costa Rica. Everywhere we go.... not sure about this. I'd like to go somewhere beautiful that wasn't so effing expensive. You know?John Dawson from New Riders of the Purple Sage.
John 'Marmaduke' Dawson was one of the members of 'The New Riders of the Purple Sage', which was 'kind of a country band' that became popular during the S.F. hippie period. At some point the band included some members of The Grateful Dead and they have, just like the 'Dead', kind of a cult status, but obviously not a big. You should read up on them; they've made some interesting music!Okay I feel like a really dumb old guy... who TF is Marmaduke... ???

They sure have! Went to countless concerts at the old Academy of Music and (later) Palladium in NYC.
