Went out to get the paper at 5 AM and I noticed something really strange: the legendary "Pineapple Express" is upon us!
Stiff, southwest wind (coming from Honolulu?) and it's 60 degrees! Good grief! Where'd I put my shorts?

Man, we are suffering here in the PNW!

This is true of Oregon, Washington and BC.
Edit: Rain fall is vastly different on the East side of the Cascades also. Far less of it. If Bellingham gets around 40 inches of rain in a normal year, much of the eastern part of Washington is 12 inches or less.

Same thing even down into California, the coastal regions get moderated by the ocean whose temperature actually only varies within about a 10 degree range year round (53-60 at Santa Cruz in the central coast) and most of the rainfall gets trapped there too.

This morning's warm(ish) wind was merely the precursor to the soaking we're getting right now. Supposed to continue for several days and the freezing level is rising, so all the rivers are on flood watch....just like that.

That's the trade-off for 'moderate' temps!

Yep. If only we could figure out a way to kind of spread it out over the year!

Jerry, if it makes you feel any better, it sure didn't get up to 60 here. Of course I'm a few miles north of Joe...didn't get much higher than 55 here. Steffan

A friend of mine was down in Orlando last week.
He said the local news anchor noted that the overnight temperature was going to be 28°F
and that he sternly warned that people should not go outdoors with exposed flesh at that temperature.

Local news anchors are a helpful lot, aye. I'm eternally grateful for their sage advice.

Rained like a dirty dog last night & this morning, retention ponds in our development were all active. I spent this morning with some neighbors rescuing mature fir trees from an infestation of English Ivy. Some of the ivy was thick as my wrist. Hauled 900 pounds of the nasty stuff to the yard waste facility.

I got wet right down to my BVD's, steady drizzle most all day, no letup in the forecast.

Then I read in the paper Seattle rainfall averages like 37 inches a year, about the same as Dallas. Most all the rest of civilized America gets more rain than Seattle. Sure as heck doesn't feel like it this time of year. :?

Completely serious.

Shucks, I've been going out with exposed flesh at much lower temperatures all my life.

Maybe the guy is right, and that's why I look as bad as I do.
