We need to talk about the M70 Custom: my impressions here. Who else is playing one? What do you think?

A Blues 90 with a slightly different shape, bound fretboard and block inlays! Don’t know if it’s hollow and I’m too lazy to look.

I seem to recall that if you divide the Guild electric world into solid and hollow bodied, only hollow bodies had binding on the top and the bottom. If the binding is only on the top then the smart money is "solid". Of course I can't tell from the photos I checked.

I loved everything about my M-70 except for the chunky "D"-shaped neck. it was easily the biggest neck of any Guild electric I've ever owned.

Ralf, at that point is it pretty much a hog-bodied Blues 90?
I'd say yes but with the old style body shape. The 2000 and 2001 Nashville made M-95 are partially chambered like the 90ies/200x Bluesbirds but instead of a maple top with a quilted mahogany top. But there were only 12 made in total...And a few are in Europe, but 2nevets actually got his from the Netherlands back in the US.

Poor number 1 had a bit of an accident in Germany... (not my guitar):

As an update on this, today I fitted an ABM roller bridge as a prelude to fitting a vibrato. It's expensive and supposedly the best on the market.

The result? Big loss of tone. Much mellower and the nice twangy bite is gone. The original bridge says "Made In Germany" and looks like a Schaller. With the original bridge, the low E string is resting against the base of the unit, all the other strings are clear. That will cause extra friction when using a vibrato. The roller bridge has scoops to avoid this, but not worth it for the loss of high frequencies.

Perhaps to try the Schaller roller bridge next?

Why this guitar doesn't work with a Bigsby (without a refinish) - apologies for blurry photos

Parker, apologies if this has already been covered - seeing the above photos, any consideration of
leaving the M70 be and picking up a DeArmond M75T or M77T? In the US at least, they're for sale often and
for not much $$ - change the pickups, upgrade the trem, unless the weight is a dealbreaker?
Seems I've read the later M77Ts were lighter than the M75Ts.

yes, i did have that thought. They may look similar, but there are differences: different (better) pickups, light chambered body, and a fantastic custom shop neck and fingerboard. I couldn't upgrade that easily on the DeArmond. Honestly, the M70 sounds great to me. I'm enjoying playing around with potential mods that i may or may not do.
