As a public service announcement and further to my recent "Guild sighting" post, have a look at this non-technique:

This topic has been here before and has the potential to either open a can of worms or begin a lively discussion, but he really needs to....trim those strings, or maybe lose an eye.

Ooooh, pet peeve time! Trim 'em or go away. A scratched cornea is VERY painful... I've seen it happen. Punctures are worse. Spend a few bucks and buy a cutter!

And when bumped often may knock the rest of the string out of tune.

Yikes! Look how the excess from the low E string is tucked under the tuning knob.

Always makes me laugh. You don't need any guitar savvy to know that that just looks like crap.

During the great "Folk Music Scare" of the 60's, loose strings were quite popular :)

Yeah, that guy will never make it with those strings like that.
Maybe that accounts for the increase in the number of blind and/or one-eyed musicians. :?:

Makes my skin crawl. My guitar teacher when I was 13 used to rail on me if I left one. "You'll poke your eye out!"

I was wondering about those.

I thought about the Gruhn era, but I guess those were diamond pattern.
