"I Just Wanna Have Something To Do" - The Ramones
When this album was first released, I took it out from the library and was appalled. My teenage prog-rock and electronica brain couldn't process it.
Two years later I had a buzz cut, safety pin fashion accessories, and an entirely different outlook on music. These guys cleared out my earwax and opened up a whole lot of options for me.
Thx for the explanation…. Without the haircut and other accessories... The Sex Pistols and the Stranglers made something clear in my mind in the 70’s… First thought :” what???? . -Something Better Change - The Stranglers -
"Can't Get Used to Losing You" - The Beat
This band was called The English Beat in America and Canada because some other band was already releasing records under the name The Beat.
And the American "The Beat" were later often tagged "The Paul Collins Beat". Paul Collins being the songwriter/singer/Guitarist who was the drummer in the seminal band The Nerves, which also featured Peter Case who formed The Plimsouls (the bar band in the Valley Girl film) & Jack Lee who wrote the "Hanging On The Telephone" (a Nerves song later covered by Blondie of course) & "Come Back & Stay" (off Jack Lee's solo album) which was a huge hit for Paul Young. That first Beat album is classic power pop. Love the English Beat too!
