Ugh. Get well soon!

I've heard people say it's usually "no worse than the flu." But flu is one of the worst experiences I've ever had. And I was born with brain fog. And Covid makes it worse? Oy.

A month or so ago, it looked like the last pandemic wave was in retreat. So for the first time since the first lockdown, I booked a pub gig for me and my buddy Buddy.

Then the new surge started up, which worried me. Then Buddy emailed me Tuesday to say he has Covid.

So now I'm stuck playing solo, which I hate hate hate, at a time when I shouldn't even be in at a bar.

In separate acts, we both used to play there at least monthly. Don't want to reneg, because I don't want to risk losing future gigs there. I'll wear a mask when I'm not performing, of course, and keep my fingers and toes crossed.

Despite being careful and being triple vaccinated, my wife and I have come down with Covid - confirmed with rapid antigen tests which have a very low rate of false positive results. Because we are vaccinated and are generally in good health, the situation is neither serious nor life-threatening. It is, however, not an experience I would wish on my worst enemy. The worst of it was one day of the most excruciating sinus pain I have ever experienced. This has been followed by sinus congestion, mild cough, chills, sweats (no fever), mild shortness of breath, and general fatigue all of which, while persistent, gets marginally better every day. I am on the mend. I have been spared the dreaded "brain fog."

We probably got it from my son, who, although he showed no symptoms at all, tested positive with a rapid antigen test my wife administered. My wife, who is younger than cradle-robber me, has had much milder symptoms. The geezer gets hit the hardest.

Stay safe!
Canard,
Sorry to hear that you and Mrs. Canard are down with Covid.
Hope you are over and done with it very quickly. Luckily, being protected by the vaccines, you are not suffering it at its worst.
Mrs. RBSinTo and I both got it in March 2020, long before it was well understood, and before there were any real counter-measures available to combat it. We were very sick with it, and even now are not as healthy as we were pre-Covid.
I hope you and your wife recover fully and quickly.

My wife & I continue to wear masks when we go into stores, and just received our second booster shots. Got a road trip coming up to visit our daughter & want to stay as safe as we can.
Last June my wife and I did a road trip out to LA the long way to visit our son. We toured the southwest. This was after we got vaccinated but before boosters. We were gone twenty one days, five of which we stayed at my son's place. We don't take covid lightly, we have friends that died from it and others who suffer long term health problems from having it. It was surprising how much control you have over your environment and exposure risk out on the road. It was a good trip. I hope you enjoy yours.

The mask requirement was lifted in NV however, if I go anywhere there's massive amount of people, stores, waiting rooms, etc., we wear our masks. Covid is still out there and a mask is the first line of defense.

+1. As a person who is immunosuppressed, I do NOT want to get COVID. I'm wearing a mask indoors always. Also, still avoiding big crowds. It's a pretty small price to pay to "defend" myself.

I've had both boosters, and will be looking into the monoclonal antibody injections this summer with my doctors. We'll see what happens.

And I'm not just wearing a mask for ME, I'm wearing it for YOU as well. It's called being responsible in the whole transmission chain. So while I don't enjoy wearing a mask, it's what we have to do these days. Stay safe, Jeff!! (y)

My son caught it and suffered effects for quite a bit afterwards. As long as this thread doesn't turn into the equivalent of Philadelphia Eagles and Dallas. Cowboy fans yelling "YOU SUCK!" at each other, this thread will be ok. I know my personal beliefs might be anathema to other forum members, but truly, I don't want anybody to get sick, if I can personally help it.
That's what it comes down to. I have a bunch of electronic friends here and I don't want to lose any more of them.

I believe masks are secondary to vaccinations. if you are only relying on the mask you may be disappointed.
Not exactly. Vaccine = chances of being hospitalized being very slim to none if you get covid. But you can still get it, and spread it to others who might not be vaxxed. Masks = not getting it, and not spreading it. Simple as that. To only vax is like a surgeon that gives himself an antibiotic but doesn't wear a mask during surgery. Good for him, potentially horrible for the patient. Think of that patient as your fellow 2,600,000 unvaccinated Michiganders. ;) Like Davisman said, Vax is for you, masks are for everyone. I'm tired of masks too. Everyone is. And I used to do lead and asbestos abatement and had to wear a full face respirator and tyvek suit all day, 6 days a week. Did that for years! These past 2 years have been a breeze. Masks have honestly been the easiest part. And on the super plus side, I haven't had as much as a sniffle in over two years. The common flu and cold have been on a total extended hiatus entirely thanks to masks. 👍

After getting COVID back in March, 2020, I've had the sweats every night. Fatigue is also a constant problem.

Personal attacks of the "you, your, they" variety will at the very least, get your comments edited. "We" i.e. the majority of the membership, come here for a respite, a little oasis of calm in the storm. Finger prointing doesn't help much. Better to just wish the ill a swift recovery.

Just for clarification - the word Covid, by itself is not immediate grounds for moderation. But any statement on the subject that extends beyond a clearly stated personal opinion, is a moderation concern. If you want to keep this thread open and not closed for the reasons every other Covid thread was closed stick to the word "I" and avoid generalizations to anyone or everyone else.

Wife and I both had it in February. Fortunately for us, it was no worse than a cold or mild flu and symptoms were gone within a week. We are vaxed and boosted and glad to be. Several friends have also gotten the Omicron variant and none have been hospitalized. Did not want to get it, but, it is a bit of a relief to have gotten it and not been anything more than inconvenience.

Now the question is when to get our second booster shots.
