Hey guys and gals,

I've just talked to someone who's offering me his JF30 (but I DOOO want an F-50!!!). He maintains that he used to own an F-50 (medium-to-late Westerly period) that was extremely heavy, and this JF30 he's offering is tons lighter. Any ideas why that could be the case?

I seem to remember reading that at some point Guild started using padouk for F-50 necks, which is a really heavy type of wood, apparently. When was that?

Cheers me dears,
Recky

Hello Recky,

Padouk necks were used on F-50R models, not on F-50s.

Hi Hans, was it also used on the F512 R??? Its also a heavy guitar...Steffan

Hello Steffan,

Yes, it was used on the F-50R, the F-512 and the G-312 but if it's heavy it doesn't automatically mean that it's a padouk neck.
If you're not sure just send me a clear picture of the back of the headstock. I can usually tell if it's padouk.

Sincerely,

Hans Moust

Hans, I've been meaning to do that with my '78 G312. I'll see if I can snap some pix this weekend.
