I'd remove the thinline, just because there would likely be more sound transfer to the top. (plus you may want to reuse the thinline) Just be sure that the saddle and the bottom of the slot are flush. You might still be able to use the same saddle, or go with bone or tusque etc, if you want. Should be no problem properly connecting the wires, but again I might just leave the new pickup stock. Put your signature on it, Its your guitar....she'll make you happy. :D :D Steffan

Andrew, don't soak the wood with oil. Just use a little bit and let the fretboard and bridge absorb it. Too much is probably not good for it.

I think the luthier's advice is good, but you should probably have the bridge removed and re-glued soon.

Trust me, this guitar needed some moisterizing, big time. The luthier (dude builds acoustics for Santa Cruz guitars and was a really nice, humble, knowledgeable younger guy) told me wait on the bridge reglue but to keep an eye on it. Also was the guy who recommended using "OrangeGlo". Which I already had around the house anyway. I totally second the OrangeGlo rec. It transformed the tired and dried out rosewood neck and bridge into "like new" and very happy condition within 2 days (I used to use trumpet "bore oil" on my D35). Anyway, no oily muck. No sticky stuff. Just sweet playing and happy looking moist wood (with a faint and pleasant scent of orange). Check it out. Let me know what you guys/gals think.

Glad to hear you've saved an old Guild from oblivion. Look forward to hearing the progress.

As for this. . .

Whatever way you are recommending, I'm not seeing it. How? how? how? (without some separate "account", that is)

There is no way to post pics unless they're uploaded somewhere on the net, i.e., accessible by a browser. In essence, you do have to start an account at a photo/vid hosting site (like Photobucket, Picasa, Flickr, Webshots, etc.) and upload your photos to it. After uploading photos, there are usually directions on the site for different ways to share the photo. This is done on a bulletin board or forum such as LTG by copying the URL for the uploaded image and placing it within the image brackets like this "
". Many of the sites already have the code for you to just copy and paste into your message. You can then preview the your message to see if it worked. Many here use Photobucket or Imageshack. Does this make sense?

When new folks here are trying to figure it out, like Default, we usually refer them to the instructional thread.

I say offer $400 & see what they'll do. Sounds like it's in rough shape for $500, & you need a case & probably some work done.
Sometimes it's tricky fitting Guild arch backs with cases, so I'd get the lawyer a $ 60 or so case from Musicians Friend or somewhere, & take the original.
But that's just me.

PS, it sounds like you need this guitar.

Great advice. Acted on it and was successful. $50 to buy a used Ibanez pretty nice acc case from the local music store that would fit a newer Takamine 12er (my guild did not fit, but took a chance). I went to the lawyer with it and has Taka 12er fit, and I retrieved the orig Guild D25 12er case. $50 bucks. Near perfect condition case. What a deal. Thx for the advice!
