That's pretty much a death trap. Tires an inch from your elbows, differential in your groin and the engine is in front so if it blows (and they did blow) you're getting all the engine shrapnel or possibly the entire engine in your face. Yeesh!

Note that there is a carrier with two vans so the carrier driver, and not a van driver, is almost certainly at fault.
Looks to me like three vans were being transported on the carrier. The design of the trailer meant that the rear of the third van was too high for the service station canopy, resulting in a collision when the truck pulled out:unsure:

Based on the photo, that is way out in the middle of nowhere! I can't make out the sign (AVID?), but I wonder where this took place? Crazy, no matter where it was...

East of Paris. Might be rural. If you look at the French link and translate there are things that could be place names or towns where the responders came from.

And in my OP I only saw two vans but there are three.
