We can disagree on causes and potential solutions, but we can all commiserate and hope that those who are out of work find new/better gigs.

Sorry to hear.
You are on the professional networking sites like linkedin.com, yes?
What kind of development did you manage? Seems like there are enough of us here invovlevd in the industry that we might be able to locate some leads.

Hang in there...

Tunes,

Hang in there my friend. Just a couple of thoughts, the first being that you'd have never been in the position that you were in for so long had it not been for a sharp mind and some very hard work. I still think there are numurous companies looking for folks just like you.....even now.

The other thought is that unless your wife is very established in what she does, and it sounds as if she may be, but if you'd ever consider a move, the economy is still pretty good down here. Most especially for people with your talent down where Russ and Scratch live in the Austin area, but also in the Dallas area. Consider it an invitation  .

Good luck to you sir,

West

Tunes / Guitarslinger,

I'm really sorry to hear about your situation. Same thing happened to me as a direct result of 9/11. Gainfully employed for 20 years, then suddenly nobody needs your services anymore.

As tough as it seems now, there will be something good come out of the trial, even though it is hard to see when you are going through it.

Prayers for you guys...

You should file for unemployment benefits IMMEDIATELY.

Good luck in your job search.

BTW, Apple Computer is hiring like crazy in Silicon Valley if you're interested in moving.

All,

I thought I should provide an update on this thread. I've been quiet on the board due to an intensified search for a job. Well that finally paid off and I received a verbal offer today. I expect to start my new job with one of the top global consulting firms sometime in the New Year.

I want to thank all of you who provided your thoughts and well wishes when I first posted this back in June of this year. It's been a short, and long 6 months. I must say I sure enjoyed the first three or four, but during the last two months as winter set in here in Canada it was getting kinda depressing. I think at times we have perhaps too much of our self worth tied up in a job - but it's kinda how the world turns. I hopefully learned some during this past few months that will serve me in the future.

Despite the job situation, I sure had a lot of fun buying and selling a few (too many) guitars. But that's a story for another day.

Once again thanks to everyone who provided support on this post - ya'll have a great Christmas. I will have something a little extra to celebrate this year I think. To those on the forum that may be searching - the economy seems to be turning and I sincerely hope it turns your way.

In a variation of 'not being able to see the forest for the trees,' you can't really appreciate having a job as much as you can when you lose it. There's a lot of perspective to be gained having your feet knocked out from under you and an equal opportunity to grow as you watch yourself deal with the consequences, and rise to the occasion.

We are at all times the sum total of our life experiences and Tim, I'll just bet that you're stronger now than you've ever been.

Thanks for sharing the good news and best to you on down the road,
Joe

The new job is all well and good, but think of the downside.

"Pants-less Fridays" are now a thing of the past.

I was getting some major GAS pains looking at a DV-52 and a 55 being put on the block - so fortunately this situation has made that decision easy!

I'm gonna go play some golf now .... at a inexpensive course!

is It an indoor course :? Ontario isn't famous for it warm winters if fact some might say its a good place to be from....I was born in Ontario, and still feel the cold. Steffan
