Folks - let's remember that "repeatable science" and anecdotal evidence are not the same thing and they can simultaneously both be true and contradict each other (especially when statistics are involved). I also ask that folks respond to what was posted and not what they thought was posted. No harm yet but I sense some heat being generated.
On the subject of gluten free beer, there is a local establishment that caters to the medieval. On the beer side of the house they strive for brews that were made by breweries that have existed since the Middle Ages and using recipes that date back that far as well. In order to cover patron's tastes they have to relax that - a porter (style that didn't exist until the 18th century) brewed by an old brewery, for example - but they just admit that the only way they get gluten free beer on their menus is from a modern recipe from a modern brewery.
