Zelja,

I didn't mean to get too fancy calling it 'brass shim-stock', but that is what my repairman calls it and I figured it might be a Term of Art, that is, a descriptive term familiar to people who work with metal. In truth, I think he's always looking for material to scavenge for various projects. I'll ask him how he sourced that brass and get back to you on it in the next couple of days.

The copper tape trick sounds do-able. I kind of like the idea of a solid piece of brass for the following reason: I feel (rightly or wrongly) that the loose fit of the bridge bolts/studs in the insert cup means that the energy from the strings doesn't transfer from the strings to the body in any appreciable amount. Now that the brass is firmly touching both the threads of the bolt/stud and the walls of the insert cup, I feel the guitar has more sustain.

I could be fooling myself about the increased sustain, too!

Speaking of terms of art, can you tell me about the word 'Zelja'? Witty internet sobriquet, or something else?
