To me, it looks like the body at least could use some steel wool and stain and clear coat. Is that the plan to refinish it, or just leave it road worn ?

nice one Chris! is this the result of the strat trade? u came out on top of that one my friend! congrats and enjoy!
Thanks, but I have to disagree on the swap. (Although I wasn't able to trade. I bought it and then an LTGer decided to go for the Legacy.) If anything, the G&L is worth more than the S-90, $-wise. But, I had 2 Legacys and no early solid body Guild, the buyer had wanted a good Strat. We both win! I still have my Legacy (which I love) when I want a Strat sound, now I have this for my bucker needs. (And my Butternut Deuce for my P90 needs, my Starfire for my semi-hollowbody needs, etc. etc. etc.)
love the 60s Jetstar bridge on there by the way. I do not have any intonation issues with mine (65 jetstar). I do not mind the chunkyness and location of the bridge, its ok as far as playing even though my hand tends to hit it or wants to rest there...its just that its condition is so nice and shiny/chrome that I do not want to tarnish it. but alas, eventually I shall do just that.

hows the neck on yours, chunky monkey or slim pickin?
1-5/8" nut and a nice comfy slender neck, just like I like 'em!

John, to each his own taste, but for me, I find no need to try to make the old look new. It took over 40 years for it to look like this, it's earned its history, let it show it. Address structural/maintenance issues, yes, but no need for any cosmetic surgery. (I also find elective cosmetic surgical enhancements in people incredibly unnatural and highly unattractive.)

I put the Snark to it last night, and the intonation was spot on except for the D-string, which was only slightly off. So even though you can't change the bridge intonation, there's really no need to, as long as I use the same type of strings, which I like anyway!

I didn't know if you bought it to fix up and bring back or to just play. To each their own, I guess. I love the beauty of nicely finished wood too. That hunk of it is calling out for some TLC, in my mind. I'm in the middle of a 1965 Mustang restoration. It's nearly 50 years old and needed a lot fixed. So..I'm spending a lot of time and money to do it. It may have earned it's road wear too, but which would you drive ?

John, stick to cars. The only thing on the guitar that needs "fixed" is a new nut. Plus, a refin strips away close to half of the value of a vintage guitar.

Honest vintage wear is about as cool as it gets. Now damage, breaks, cracks, etc. (repaired or not) is something I have a hard time dealing with. I think that S-90 is perfect.

Chris,

All the pictures look fine, but the second one. Is that just an issue with the flash or something ? there others looked like a more uniform finish. That shot made me think of some sort of water or finish damage beyond just road wear. Which is why I asked if it was a fix it up guitar or just play it like it is one.

John, that's just reflection from the windows. No water damage, a couple of areas that are a little dirtier than others, but the only damage are the various nicks and dings around the edges.

Update:
I cut a new nut for it this morning, and now it's playing like butta, even with the old worn (-ish) frets! Nice straight neck, just a touch of relief, 5/64" at the 12th fret on the low E, and 4/64, maybe a hair less, at the high E.

YUM!
