Oh, and there’s the really awesome box you get with a new Guild

OK, I've never bought a guitar without the end pin installed. What's the purpose of not installing the pin?
Uke, there's less likelihood of the guitar getting damaged if it's bumped/dropped on the tail block while shipping. If I can, I always pull the endpin out when I package up a guitar.

For the record, I always thought the end pin not being installed was to leave things more accessible if you decide to put a pickup like a k&k in or something. It's the same thing with Martins when you buy them, unless of course your buying one with a pickup installed.

Cases used to be built so that the end of the guitar wasn’t all that well protected. In cases like that, if a shipping box was dropped on the end it could drive the tapered end pin into the hole and split the wood at that point. Manufacturers stopped installing pins to prevent that (plus its another step in the build process that takes a few minutes to complete. Time = money. )

it reduces the potential damage to the end of the guitar if the guitar or case is dropped on its end. In those situations, the end pin sort of works like a pin punch, and can, not saying will, damage the end block and the wood in that area.

Congrats GuildD40, you got yourself a great guitar. I have the same model with the natural finish.
