This one has been on my local C-List for a long time. He said he would trade for guns so I asked him if he would be interested in an old Mossberg pump I have that someone gave me years ago. He agreed so here it is. It's been re-finned green, and judging by the control cavity it started out blue. It was a nice re-fin job though but unfortunately it wasn't taken care of very well. It has been modified with a locking nut, Kahler trem and pickups. The bridge pickup sounds pretty good actually, the neck not so much. I'm not sure what I'm going to do with it but I kind of like it. It came with a Guild case, anyone know what it's for? It's too big to be original to this guitar. I couldn't get a good shot of the serial before my camera battery died. It's AB100226, can one of you experts tell me the exact year? It's also absolutely filthy, and the case is too. I'm going to spend a little while cleaning it and getting to know it a little better. Also, it's missing the TRC, if anyone has one, let me know.

Hello K.O.M.A.,

Looks like the original finish to me, but maybe I wouldn't say that if I had the guitar in my hands.

It's AB100226, can one of you experts tell me the exact year?

That would make it an S-250 from the year 1982.

Sincerely,

Hans Moust

Since Hans said it looks like the original color I'd say it's the clearcoat nitro that turned yellow over time (see on the binding) and makes the original crystal blue look green. Anything where you see blue has the nitro clearcoat scratched away.
The 1982 catalog had one shown in blue: http://www.vintageguitarandbass.com/graphics/guild82p10.jpg
So the guitar color is actually blue but now looks green.

Regarding the TRC: Check with Ken Nash, he might have a S-250 one: http://www.theguitarmechanic.com/GuildKnobsPickguards.html

Since Hans said it looks like the original color .......

No, I said it looks like the original finish! It's definitely not the original color!

As far as the truss rod cover is concerned, it would be a waste buying an original one for an S-250 and then cut it in half to accommodate the Kahler string clamp. A generic truss rod cover will set you back $ 5.00.

Sincerely,

Hans Moust

Oh, o.k., it looked from the pictures just like the yellowed nitro was responsible for the recoloring from blue to green.

O.k., got it. Didn't notice the changed nut.

Big misunderstanding here! The nitro topcoat is responsible for the blue-turning-green! That's why I said it looks like the original finish. It is not the original color, since it's green now! Got it?

I think now I got it! :cheerful: So what I thought is actually correct, but the words "color" and "lacquer" are two different things. English language for foreigners...So let's recap: It is still the original "crystal blue" (or whatever that color was correctly called) "paint" on the guitar and the original color was blue, but due to the yellowed top coat nitro lacquer it now looks green. That was tough...:encouragement: And for K.O.M.A. it's important that it was not refinished in green.

Either way, I like it! But "un-refinished" is even better!

So that blue in the control cavity is the original finish? OK. I like the green color it is now. I was thinking of removing the Kahler and refinishing it but now I'll have to think about it some. I'm definitely not a fan of Kahlers. Anyone know the year or know what the case might have been for originally?

Hey Koma, nice score mate. I think that case is originally for an early 80's M80.
The case for my M80 is exactly the same.

Very nice KOMA, Those are great playing Guilds. As far as the case I have seen the angled resting area inside of yours used for an early X79. Don't know if that is what it is for but I like the peach covering!:single_eye:

Update: Found this when I was doing my evening Guild search. Case looks Identical to yours.
