I went and picked up the 74 today. I bought it on eBay, on a whim, while in the middle of working on a deal to get a cherry 75 sent down from up north (the cherry 75 wound up with Q...or soon will be with Q). I may have overpaid a little...meh...I wanted it.
So, to summarize the above mentioned thread, I am "unwowed", but not because the 74 isn't a badass guit...no, not at all...it's cuz I have been playing this same guit for a month or so now! Identical in almost every way to the '93, 007. Differences are:
1. the markers for the vol/tone knobs and the knobs themselves (vintage say vol/tone on them)
2. the thumbwheels for the bridge height adjustment have larger and more pronounced outside ridges on the '74
3. the belly cut on the '74 comes to a slightly more narrow point at the body's edge
4. the '74 is, maybe, an 1/8th of an inch shorter
It has it's dents and dings, but nothing horrible for an almost 40 yr old guit. I dig it...it's a keeper...just not uberspecial, since fit, finish, sound and feel are damned near identical to 007.
Here are pics of the pups and a shot after it was cleaned up and a new set of Blue Steels thrown on.
