Continuation/Rebirth of viewtopic.php?f=15&t=20792...

I went and picked up the 74 today. I bought it on eBay, on a whim, while in the middle of working on a deal to get a cherry 75 sent down from up north (the cherry 75 wound up with Q...or soon will be with Q). I may have overpaid a little...meh...I wanted it.

So, to summarize the above mentioned thread, I am "unwowed", but not because the 74 isn't a badass guit...no, not at all...it's cuz I have been playing this same guit for a month or so now! Identical in almost every way to the '93, 007. Differences are:

1. the markers for the vol/tone knobs and the knobs themselves (vintage say vol/tone on them)
2. the thumbwheels for the bridge height adjustment have larger and more pronounced outside ridges on the '74
3. the belly cut on the '74 comes to a slightly more narrow point at the body's edge
4. the '74 is, maybe, an 1/8th of an inch shorter

It has it's dents and dings, but nothing horrible for an almost 40 yr old guit. I dig it...it's a keeper...just not uberspecial, since fit, finish, sound and feel are damned near identical to 007.

Here are pics of the pups and a shot after it was cleaned up and a new set of Blue Steels thrown on.

Looks to be a mighty fine specimen!

And I think you made the right decision if the closer tailpiece on red really would have bothered you.

He shoots, he scores!

Yea, I think it would have. I've been top wrapping my Gibbos ever since I first played the green '94 and fell in love with the loosey goosey. No real way to top wrap that angled tailpiece!

Nope. And I know what I'm in for after having an S300-A. Definitely sticking with .10's on red and maybe tuning to D as well.

I can't really get into black guitars. Maybe its because I'm kind of a contrast guy, and a black guitar hides the pickup rings and the pickguard and when someone is playing one on stage while wearing a black shirt, the guitar further disappears.

No, I really couldn't get into black guitars ... until the S-100 came along. Don't know what it is, but if it's a black S-100, then I like it. And yours, Hammer, I like very much. Nice score.
