So, I saw this pop up on Reverb and was likely one of the 1st to see it. Somebody also posted about it here on this forum.

The guitar arrived today and I was pleasantly surprised. The pics on the listing made it look like it had extensive checking which although I don't really mind (and in some cases even like) I wouldn't have wanted it on a guitar like this. I was prepared to send it to Tom Jacobs for him to work his magic. But, it is seriously not bad at all and in fact it's perfect for me. Plus, the guy accepted an offer I wouldn't have had I been selling the guitar. But apparently it worked for him and it did work for me so here we are. The only negative (and it's not really a big one for me anyway) is that he advertised it with a Guild Hard plastic/molded case. I've never seen a Guild case like that but it fits the guitar just fine and I do have an extra Guild branded case if I choose to switch it to that.

This one does not have the carved neck. But, I do have a 2nd one with a carved neck so it's all good. I love the Maple binding and the inlays on this model. The date stamp on the neck block looks like February 9th, 2000. The EIR B&S look really sweet. Overall, I'm a happy kinda guy.

Congrats Rich! I’m curious as to how consistent your two are in terms of specs, playability and sound? I’d think fairly so for a limited run, but given a lot of hand work that went into these who knows.

Congrats! Enjoy!

...I wonder if the bracing differs on these from the DV series. Dave might know...
@GardMan
Nope... I've never laid hands on a D-100. First thing I'd look for would be the soundboard reinforcing plate vs separate braces flanking the soundboard. Next would be positioning of the tone bars...

Wonderful looking guitar. Absolutely beautiful. Congratulations.

What are the differences between the D-55 and D-100 ?
Many thanks

Three obvious things right off the bat, are abalone purfling on the top, crown inlays on the ebony fretboard, and the headstock is the multi-layered faceplate with a bevel on the edge for a finish. The headstock is not technically "bound" but has the decorative bevel showing the layers of the layered faceplate on the edge. That's three obvious differences that I see.

It is Maple bound. Also, my guitar is a 1990, not a 2000.I was looking at another of my guitars when I typed that plus I'm an old man so I think that gives me a pass.

Nope. Sorry. The headstock has a multi-layered plate, which is then beveled around the edge to form a "trim" but is not bound in the traditional sense. It's done the same as the DV-72. One or two of those layers may indeed be maple, but it looks like this:

Gotta admit you made me look ata a couple of pics when you mentioned it, but I knew the technique you were talking about so suspected you were right.

Also about the 'hog neck on D55/D65S's, had to go look at that too. Gettin' old. Startin' to forget stuff sometimes. Rosewood necks are pretty uncommon. 'Hog has very good dimensional stability properties and easy to work, so ideal for necks, actually.
